Kansas City Chiefs GM Feeling “Lucky” To Get Star Wide Receiver In Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs entered another NFL offseason as the reigning champs. However, this year’s team was far from perfect. An area in which they struggled was in the passing game. Their wide receivers led the league in drops. While they were able to get away with it last year, that isn’t a recipe for long-term success. GM Brett Veach went out and got some help by signing Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal. In a recent interview, Veach talked about how lucky he felt to get the wide receiver in free agency.

There are many teams that could use a wide receiver like Hollywood Brown. While he has had injuries in the past, he has shown he can be a quality receiver when healthy. Veach thought it was a great signing for Patrick Mahomes.

“Like every year, whether it’s free agency or the draft, if there’s an opportunity to add a playmaker for Pat (Mahomes), we’re always going to be looking for those options. (We) played it out, so to speak, at some other positions. I think we were lucky that Hollywood’s situation played out the way it did.

“I think he’s going to be a great one-year addition for us and he’s going to set himself up nicely moving forward. I think we’re excited and like I said, every year is different and unique. I think with the resources we had available, we maximized what we can do this offseason.”

The signing becomes even more critical for the Kansas City Chiefs with the Rashee Rice situation unfolding. There is a chance they will need Brown to take on a large role in the offense next season.

At this point, I’m not counting the Chiefs out of anything. If they can get to the postseason, they have the ability to win it all. While the AFC is a tough conference, their division is easier this year than in the past. Both the Broncos and Chargers seem to be in the midst of a rebuild. The Raiders could be frisky but aren’t on the same level as the Chiefs. The team should win the division, and we saw this year that they do not need home-field advantage to win it all.

The Kansas City Chiefs will have a target on their back this season. Other teams are tired of hearing how great the Chiefs are and will be eager to knock off the defending champs.
