Mike Perry Stops Nate Diaz After Corner Stoppage At MVP MMA 1

Nate Diaz (blue gloves) fights Mike Perry (red gloves) in a welterweight bout.

Mike Perry secured a technical knockout victory over Nate Diaz on Saturday at MVP MMA 1, after Diaz’s corner and the ringside doctor stopped the fight at the end of the second round.  Both were two of the sport’s most resilient and seasoned opponents, and came out with no fear. As the fight progressed, Perry gradually took control of the exchanges and began landing his combinations more consistently.

At the end of the second round, Perry landed a significant strike that visibly hurt Diaz, leaving him in a compromised position heading into the break. He was unable to continue after being assessed by the corner and medical team, awarding Perry the TKO victory via corner stoppage.

Relentless Pace Defines the Fight

Both fighters liked to go at it in the middle of the cage, resulting in heavy shots. Diaz tried to use the strength of numbers and durability, Perry tried to use combinations of pressure and power.

As the fight unfolded, Perry’s aggression started to swing the pendulum back in his favor. As Diaz backed off to try to keep pace, his ability to deliver a heavier shot became key. They were key in the final moments of the second round when Nate, unable to recover during the break, was charged with a late offence from Mike Perry.

Diaz Called For An Immediate Rematch

After the fight, Diaz expressed frustration with the result and said he would like an immediate rematch. He said he is ready to run it back right away, as severe bleeding affected his eyesight. He said that although he lost this fight, he is sure that a second one would yield a different outcome. Perry, however, dismissed concerns over a rematch and referred to the potential second bout as “easy money,” suggesting he is open to it depending on the financial terms.

Diaz hinted at a potential return to the UFC even before he was featured at UFC on Fox’s UFC 1 event. Another major storyline that continues to circulate is a potential trilogy fight with Conor McGregor, a matchup that is often mentioned whenever his future is discussed. Despite the defeat, his market value and drawing power are still very high, and numerous high-profile opportunities remain.

Perry Calls Out Jake Paul and Eyes Big Fights

Immediately after the win, Perry turned his attention to Jake Paul, calling for a crossover MMA bout. Paul, who was ringside, took up the challenge live, saying he is willing to take on the challenge in MMA rules.

The matchup was the latest in Perry’s list of blockbuster flights. Perry has also been interested in continuing in his career in multiple combat sports, with his continued presence in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship as a major star for bare-knuckle competition. He also revealed plans to compete on a major card in Washington, D.C. in 2026.

Reactions From Fighters/Analysts

The stoppage win got plenty of responses from the MMA world. Belal Muhammad, a former UFC welterweight champ, called Diaz out on his training, saying he should have been more serious about it coming into the bout. He stated in his tweet, “Guess you should’ve actually worked out and not just smoked weed at the open workout.’

As Diaz’s blood and damage became visible, former fighter Ben Askren was quick to comment on the level of the fight on social media, posting a video that went viral. He wrote, “Good God, the amount of blood coming from Nate is insane.”

What Comes Next?

Post-fight, Perry stated that he was feeling good after his win and that he would get a short break before getting into training camp. Now at 170 pounds, Perry thinks he is one of the best welterweights in the world, and he’s curious about any potential crossover or MMA opportunities.
