It wouldn’t be a Dallas Cowboys offseason without some drama. There is already contract drama surrounding a trio of star players. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons are all in line for new contracts. However, owner Jerry Jones has been reluctant to shell out massive amounts of money ahead of the 2024 season. Parsons was one of the players who held out of OTAs and part of mandatory minicamp due to the contract dispute. His teammate, Malik Hooker, recently called out the All-Pro player in an interview.
Dallas Cowboys Micah Parsons Called Out By Teammate
On Keyshawn Johnson’s All Facts No Brakes podcast, Hooker was asked about the rise of professional athletes starting podcasts and marketing themselves. Dallas Cowboys edge Micah Parsons is one of the high-profile athletes who has a popular podcast, and the safety called him out.
“My advice for Micah would be: just know we’re all right and being where your feet are. Because if we’re at work, and the run game’s terrible, but you’re doing a podcast every week and you know the run game is terrible, then what are you really caring about? Are you caring about the crowd that ‘s watching your podcast? Or caring about the success of our team and the Super Bowl that we’re trying to reach?”
Hooker wants to see Micah Parsons put the same energy that he is putting into the podcast into the team. To be fair, Parsons’ teammate did give him some grace saying that he doesn’t fault him for trying to expand his brand. However, for a team that is trying to win a Super Bowl, it isn’t out of line to question where priorities lie.
Should Athletes Have Podcasts?
Micah Parsons is far from the only athlete who has a podcast. Fans love to hear the unfiltered talk of their favorite players. Media sessions often feel rehearsed but on their own personal podcasts, athletes can show fans more of their personality. However, I do think it is fair to question priorities. Should Parsons have been with the Dallas Cowboys during their offseason activities? It certainly wouldn’t hurt the team. The defense was far from perfect and new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is likely installing new schemes and ideas.
Parsons did respond on social media to Hooker experssing his disappointment with him saying it to someone else rather than to him.
“Just wish you said this to me but instead on some podcast! And you got my number family! @MalikHooker24 and you my locker mate!” Parsons wrote, via the Dallas Morning News. “So you coulda said this any day! And you do realize I shoot the podcast on our off day! Why ain’t we talking about everyone preparations and focus.”
The contract holdout part of this makes sense. This is not new for athletes. However, I don’t think that Micah Parsons will be the last athlete to get called out by a teammate over a podcast. This does show how much pressure the Dallas Cowboys are under next season. It is basically Super Bowl or bust or at least conference championship or bust. The NFC is wide open and they showed last year they can be a top team. Can they finally get over the hump?
