The Dallas Cowboys have one of the most potent offenses in the league. Led by the connection of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys are looking to duplicate their 2023 success. To do that, they will need someone else on the roster to step up. For the past few seasons, the team had hoped that the player would be Michael Gallup. He showed promise as a complementary receiver but was never able to reach his full potential. Amidst a huge cap hit, the Dallas Cowboys have given Gallup permission to seek a trade.

Michael Gallup had a huge year in 2019 for the Dallas Cowboys. He caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. More importantly, he was the deep threat that caused defenses to be spread thin in coverage. They had to respect the speed of Gallup. After another strong year in 2020, Gallup struggled with injuries in 2021.
That didn’t deter the Dallas Cowboys from signing him. He inked a five-year $57.5 million deal ahead of the 2022 season. The hope was that he would be able to bounce back from injury and begin producing again. That didn’t happen. In the past two seasons, the speedy receiver has failed to surpass 500 yards receiving and only has a handful of touchdowns. With a cap hit of $13.85 million coming, the Cowboys had to act and allow a trade to be sought.
Will Michael Gallup Find A Trade Partner For The Dallas Cowboys?
This is where things get challenging. Other teams know the Dallas Cowboys do not want to keep Micahel Gallup on the roster. They save too much money by getting rid of him. This does not motivate other teams to give up draft capital when he will likely hit free agency, and they can sign him outright. The only advantage a team gets is the guarantee of him joining the team. If he goes into free agency, all teams will have an opportunity.
This is a tough one for the Dallas Cowboys. They hope Gallup can find a team who is willing to give them something in return even if it is a day three pick in the upcoming draft. Regardless, the Cowboys likely aren’t upset at getting Michael Gallup off their books. They will likely be in the market for another receiver who can take some pressure off of Lamb.
