Top Transfer QB Drew Mestemaker Commits To Oklahoma State
With the Transfer Portal opening yesterday, top names in the nation are going to start flying off the board. One of the bigger names was Former North Texas QB Drew Mestemaker, who has now committed to Oklahoma State per Pete Thamel of ESPN. Mestemaker was listed as the third-best quarterback in the portal, trailing just Sam Leavitt and Brendan Sorsby.
Mestemaker Heads To Oklahoma State
Mestemakerโs commitment to Oklahoma State is hardly unexpected, given his strong connection to former Head Coach Eric Morris. Last season, Mestemaker put together a remarkable campaign, passing for more than 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the most promising young quarterbacks in college football. With Morris now at the helm in Stillwater, the expectation is that other standout players from North Texas may follow.
After finishing 1-11 last season without a conference win, Oklahoma State will look to bounce back after a horrific season. Morris has a lot of work to do after 59 players entered the Transfer Portal. Bringing in Mestemaker to lead the offense is a huge get, as he set the North Texas program record for the most passing touchdowns in a single season (34) as a freshman.
What’s Next For Morris?
The solution is clear: continue recruiting top young talent from North Texas. Two standout names in the transfer portal are Running Back Caleb Hawkins and Wide Receiver Wyatt Young. Both were leaders on their respective depth charts and could make an immediate impact to help Eric Morris compete in the Big 12 next season, despite the challenges he inherited when accepting the job.
Hawkins was instrumental in North Texas’ offense last season, rushing for over 1,400 yards and 25 touchdownsโleading the entire FBS. Chris Hummer of 247 Sports has already logged an expert prediction that Oklahoma State will land Hawkins. Wyatt Young was also among the most dependable offensive players for Morris last year.
Young hauled in over 70 receptions for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. While loyalty is rare in todayโs college football landscape, these two players thrived under Morris and complemented Mestemaker, the first and most significant addition to Oklahoma Stateโs offense.
