Los Angeles Chargers: Jim Harbaugh Drafts Elite Linebacker Of National Championship Team In 3rd Round

Los Angeles Chargers- Jim Harbaugh, Bud Dupree

The 2024 NFL Draft continued on Friday night. After the first round, many big-name players were selected. The second and third rounds consisted of several players from the National Championship team at the University of Michigan. Seven players went in the draft, being the most so far by any college program.

As NFL teams are finishing up their draft process, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh chose a former player from his national title team in 2023. At pick 69 in the third round, Harbaugh selected inside linebacker Junior Colson, who he coached at Michigan last season.

Jim Harbaugh stayed true to his roots as he knew who would be a good fit for the Los Angeles Chargers on defense.

Jim Harbaugh is the new head coach of the LA Chargers for 2024. Junior Colson was always in the right spots for Michigan in their national title run in 2023. There were not too many mistakes that he made as a senior leader. In his final season with the Michigan Wolverines, Junior Colson tallied 95 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass deflections.

With Harbaugh taking a shot at the National Football League again, he knows just what type of players he wants to win games in Los Angeles. Colson was also named second-team All-Big Ten with his tackle numbers as a senior in college.

Other options for the LA Chargers should be at the wideout position. They have a lack of depth that could be secured in the rest of the 2024 NFL Draft. Mike Williams signed with the New York Jets. As Keenan Allen went to the Bears organization after last season.

Just like in the college ranks, Harbaugh will want to rely heavily on the run game. Joe Horitz and Jim Harbaugh will work closely together to make sure that the offensive side of the ball is intact for the 2024 campaign.

Seeing that Junior Colson is a defensive player, he should feel right at home with another previous coach on the Chargers sideline in Jesse Minter.

He led the charge in the Michigan Wolverines national championship run. He brought an NFL-style approach that not many college offenses could exploit. The primary key for defense is to stay in your lane, sack the QB, and stop the run. Jesse Minter brings that championship pedigree along with him to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Khalil Mack has re-signed with the LA Chargers for the upcoming season. Their defensive numbers were low, to say the least in 2023. Coaching was a big issue last season as the top players could not live up to the standards that were set. Now with a new staff at the helm, it should bring a better intensity to the entire team.

Harbaugh’s Opportunity In The NFL

The LA Chargers still have players to pick up as the 2024 NFL Draft comes to a close tonight. Round four through seven will show what Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff are made of as they prepare for the 2024 season. Harbaugh does know what it takes to be successful in the National Football League as he coached the 49ers almost 10 seasons ago.

He has the potential to turn the LA Chargers organization around from its previous struggles. A winning formula is in store as the primary goal is to win a Super Bowl. This is something that Jim Harbaugh has not accomplished yet during his coaching career throughout the years. The opportunity is near for the LA Chargers.

Many fans saw Harbaugh singing The Victors after drafting Junior Colson on Friday night. The Chargers new head coach is loyal to where he came from. It should help the rookie inside linebacker get comfortable since he is reunited with his college head coach in the National Football League!
