Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. has set a new record as the English club that has made the most profit in a year. This comes after the Seagulls announced a record profit of €122.8m for the 2022-23 financial year. Their record comes second after that of Barcelona, who made €300m in their 2022-23 financial year in the world. In addition, they broke the record set by Tottenham in their 2017-18 season when they made a profit of €113m. The interesting part is that Brighton’s figure did not include two of their big sales.
Players Transfers Earn Brighton 122.8 m Euros Profit
Among the deals that made Brighton huge profits are:
- Yves Bissouma- Moved to Tottenham in June 2022. His deal was for €30m.
- Marc Cucurella– Went to play for Chelsea in 2022. His transfer was worth €55m, with a possibility of €7m in add-ons.
- Graham Potter and his coaching staff- They were signed by Chelsea in a deal that earned Brighton €22m, in September 2022.
- Leandro Trossard- Left to join Arsenal, a deal worth €21m in January 2023.
- Liverpool transferred Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentinian World Cup Winner, in June 2023 for a deal worth €35m.

Chelsea have played a key role in the club’s profits. However, the annual profits do not include the sale of Moises Caicedo, whose deal was worth €115m, and that of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, which was worth €25m. The annual report does not include their deals since it factors in deals closed by June 30, 2023.
Tony Bloom, Brighton’s chairman, in the annual report said, “The accounts show an exceptional profit for the period, and what is incredible once again is that while we have achieved our best ever season on the field we have also delivered our best ever results off it.”
The funny thing is the Seagull’s financial success contrast’s that of many clubs in the English Premier League. Chelsea is in the red, trying to sell more players to the Saudi League. Everton already has six points off for recording losses in the 2021-22 season. Additionally, Nottingham Forest lost four points because of losses in the 2022-23 season.

Conclusion
Brighton has made history in English Football with their 2022-23 profits of €122.8m. The club has made most profits through player transfers. However, for other English clubs, it has been tough, for they are recording losses and losing points. Maybe it is time for the other clubs to try to adopt Brighton’s strategy to make profits.
