Stage 10 Tour de France Stage Summary: Mountain Madness
Stage 10 of the 2025 Tour de France was a diabolical stage where the riders were forced to climb eight mountains, as the mountain stages start. Stage 10 took place on Bastille Day in France. Simon Yates was the surprise winner of stage 10, and Ben Healy, who finished third on stage 10, claimed the yellow jersey.
Healy put in a phenomenal effort on Stage 10. He became the first Irishman to wear the yellow jersey since 1987. It was surprising that Tadej Pogačar surrendered the yellow jersey, but he may have wanted to give up the lead. How long do you think Healy will wear the jersey?
Stage 10 Of the Tour de France Summary
The winner of stage 10 was Yates, who took advantage of an exhausted Healy to win the stage. Thymen Arensman was second. He put in a heroic ride at the end of stage 10 to secure second place. Healy was third. He lost the stage, after leading the breakaway for most of the day almost 30 kilometers, but he won the yellow jersey.
Ben O’Connor was fourth. It was important to him to show well on this stage 10. Michael Storer finished fifth in stage 10. Lenny Martinez deserves mention. He was dropped by the breakaway, but hung on to finish eighth, just ahead of Pogačar and Vingegaard.
There were some big changes in the overall classification of the Tour de France due to the frantic racing on this stage. Healy secured the yellow jersey as his reward for leading the breakaway for most of the race, by himself. Pogačar, the best bike rider in the world, surrendered the overall lead and is now in second place in the general classification. Remco Evenepoel is now third. Jonas Vingegaard is now in fourth place, off the podium. He is not as fast as Pogačar. Matteo Jorgenson, the American, is still in fifth place. He rode well today.
A bit more about this stage, which was remarkable. Healy worked so hard in the breakaway on this stage that he was passed in the end by two riders. That included Yates, who won the stage. That was good for Yates, who has now won stages in each of the three grand tours (Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta de España). Yates is one of the oldest riders in the Tour. He is 32 years old. The other rider was Thymen Arensman.
Also of note, there are five Americans in this tour, and four of them are Jorgeson, Quinn Simmons, Nielson Powless, and Sepp Kuss. It was unusual for so many Americans to have an impact on stage 10. It was good for the Jumbo-Visma team and Vingegaard that Kuss rode well. Also on Vingegaard’s team is Joregeson, who is also in the top five overall. With the strong performance of Yates, Vingegaard is in good shape. His team is much stronger than that of Pogačar.
Conclusion
This was the hardest stage of the Tour de France so far, and may be the most difficult stage of the Tour. This stage had 15,000 feet of vertical climbing, and there was a surprise winner and some big changes in the overall standings. The big mountains, however, are yet to come.
This stage was from Ennezat to Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy, it had eight categorized climbs and 4,307 meters of elevation gain. This brutal stage through the Massif Central culminated in an uphill finish at Puy de Sancy. Tomorrow is a rest day, then on Wednesday is another spiriters day that is 154.8 kilometers long and both start and end in Toulouse.
