Philadelphia Eagles Fire Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo
After a lackluster season on offense, Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni has made a long-awaited decision, firing Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo after one season. With how talented the offense is on paper, itโs unacceptable to have the struggles they did this past season. The play calling was horrendous, and they never found any rhythm, making them highly predictable.
Eagles Make Big Change On Offense
Patulloโs firing comes as no surprise. With Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and a solid offensive line, thereโs no excuse for this unit to fall short of top-five status. The 49ers’ game was arguably their worst showing of the season, and there were many. From the start, Hurts appeared to lack confidence in Patulloโs play-calling ability, and his instincts proved correct.
Brown led players voicing frustration over the offensive struggles. The Eagles are now on their fifth OC in five years, with two departing for head coaching jobs. Sirianni shouldnโt be allowed to choose his next offensive coordinator. Every time heโs selected someone internally, itโs been an absolute disaster. Howie Roseman needs to take over and lead the charge in choosing the next OC, and there are plenty of quality names available on the open market.
Who Will Replace Patullo?
Many names can take over as the offensive coordinator next season, and itโs one of the most attractive jobs in the league. The pitch is simple: elite talent already in place and a genuine shot at an immediate Super Bowl run. The top two names available right now are Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll. After his dismissal from the Miami Dolphins, McDaniel could be open to a coordinator role to rebuild his reputation in the market, and his offensive acumen would be a perfect fit for the Eaglesโ current personnel.
Daboll brings a proven track record on offense and could be an appealing option if he opts to forgo head coaching opportunities this cycle. Like McDaniel, a successful season as offensive coordinator would rebuild his market value and position him for a stronger head coaching opportunity in 2027 following his disappointing tenure with the New York Giants. The Eagles should start requesting and interviewing candidates sometime this week, heading into next week, as a crucial offseason begins for Howie Roseman.
