With the new year here for the Washington Commanders, the team has hired a new offensive coordinator after a disastrous 2025 season. The Commanders hire David Blough, who was with the team as the quarterbacks coach and had been promoted from the position. Washington hopes the organization can have stability on the offense after firing Kliff Kingsbury after the regular season. Washington also hopes that Blough could mentor Jayden Daniels to be safer after injuries this past season. With the offseason underway, the Commanders are hoping to build on their progress from last season for the better.

Blough, while having a short resume in the coaching position, was a quarterback with various teams’ training camps, including the Detroit Lions, who were trying to hire him from Washington. While not the strongest name, Blough is familiar with Kingsbury’s system, along with other systems, as a player in the NFL, and could allocate his ideas to Daniels in the next NFL season. There is also the chance that the Commanders could promote more of their coaches to higher positions due to letting go of various coaches in the past week, especially for the offensive line.

The hire from the Commanders is getting praise from NFL insiders due to being a bright mind for NFL offenses in the past two years with the Washington Commanders. NFL teams from the Lions, Jets, and Bears try to get him on their coaching staff. Washington, while not taking a huge gamble, could ride high with their new coordinator even if the players prefer Kingsbury.
