Anthony Davis’ Trade Value Lower by “Unpalatable” Upcoming Salary
Dallas Mavericks veteran Anthony Davis’s trade value is lower by an unpalatable upcoming salary. Davis, 32, arrived in Dallas in the Luka Doncic trade, but his presence may have worn out its welcome. Read on for further details.
Anthony Davis Trade Value Lower by Upcoming Salary
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently said, “I don’t know what the value of Anthony Davis. Some of the stuff that I have heard from executives talking to me about what they think Anthony Davis’ trade value is … I’m not even going to say it because then I’d get aggregated and people would be jumping down my throat, and I would just be repeating something somebody else said.”
“When I have heard what people are saying Anthony Davis’ trade value is right now, not because of him as a player, to be clear, not because he’s diminished as a player, but because of the idea of paying an injury-prone mid-30s guy $50, $60 million dollars in the apron era is unpalatable.”
Windhorst’s recent statement on Davis was spot on. He might be a fan favorite, but his trade value would be less than average at the moment. He’s an injury-prone player who can’t seem to stay healthy. One shouldn’t live in the past or hold onto false hope in this situation.
Davis’ Outlook
His outlook appears to be bleak. He’s averaging 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, as well as shooting 49.3% from the field. However, his stats show when he’s healthy. He has dealt with abdomen, adductor, groin, Achilles, leg, and calf injuries since joining the Dallas Mavericks.
NBC Sports’ Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star best known for his New York Knicks tenure, recently warned Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, and Anthony Davis that what happened to Chris Paul was about to happen to them.
Anthony, 41, said, “It’s about to happen to Russ, Demar DeRozan and AD. The next trade AD has, it’s downhill from there. The way the legends of our game gets treated is f*cked up.”
Final Thoughts
The Dallas Mavericks don’t have an open roster spot and must waive a player to make room to sign another one. However, Dallas can’t do so until after Jan. 5 due to being capped at the second apron, the spending threshold that triggers penalties for exceeding certain limits.
If Mavericks rookie Ryan Nembhard plays in every game of his two-way contract, he’ll run out by Feb. 22. If Kyrie Irving doesn’t return, hypothetically, Dallas appeared to find a temporary point guard in Nembhard, 22. Even Anthony Davis implied that Nembhard would find his way to a standard contract.
Davis may be traded to the Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors or Sacramento Kings — all of whom are the frontrunners in the race. However, there might be a potential homecoming with the Los Angeles Lakers or New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans).
