The Eagles’ Defense Continues to Show Elite Level in SNF Win Over Lions
The Eagles’ defense once again is the story in the 16-9 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. Lions quarterback Jared Goff was leading the league in completion percentage entering the game, and after a 14-37 night, his completion percentage took a massive dip thanks to this Philly defense. Ever since the Jaelan Phillips trade, the Eagles have held each of their last two opponents to seven and nine points, respectively. But the offense still needs to fine-tune itself a bit; it was a little better at times tonight. With that being said, let’s dive into these takeaways from Sunday Night.Â
The Eagles’ Defensive Line Was the Story
The Eagles front controlled this game as they would knock Goff off his spot on numerous occasions in this game. Jordan Davis had three batted passes, tying with the Panthers’ Derrick Brown for the most in a game this season. Jalen Carter added two batted passes, Phillips had a sack, and linebacker Nakobe Dean got a sack later in the game. Jaylx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr also had good games on that line as well. The defense as a whole was amazing in this game, not only the defensive line, but the secondary had a great game.
The Philadelphia Secondary Strapped up these Lions Receivers

Cooper DeJean had a pick on the Lions’ first drive of the game, and that started the lockdown process of the Lions’ fewest points since 2023 and Goff’s low completion percentage. Quinyon Mitchell didn’t allow a completion all night long.
Adoree Jackson also played his heart out, and he’s clearly the No.2 Corner in Philadelphia now, the way he’s been playing these last couple of weeks in particular. This secondary is playing more freely ever since the rejuvenation of the Eagles’ Pass Rush these last two weeks.Â
Adjustments Have To Be Made In This Offense
Things were a little bit better tonight, but still not great for the Eagles’ Offense. The wind looked to be a factor a bit on some of the passes from Jalen Hurts, but at the same time, that’s not an excuse; but Hurts is the least of the Eagles’ problems on the offense right now, which has scored 26 points in the last two wins, which is the fewest in a two game win streak since 1997.Â
The Major Problem is still the playcalling from Kevin Patullo and getting the offense in the right situations. The Detroit Lions were 0-5 on fourth downs and gave the Eagles multiple possessions in their territory, and the Eagles only had 16 points ALL NIGHT LONG. PATULLO NEEDS TO CLEAN IT UP, OR SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD TAKE OVER PLAY CALLING! But the Eagles have an opportunity to clean it up in Dallas next week for a chance to lock up the NFC East after Week 12, essentially. I saw some positives, especially with Saquon Barkley almost breaking a couple of big runs in this game late.
I can also see Devonta Smith and AJ Brown getting more opportunities, but we have to balance out these opportunities between them and not overload the targets to one receiver over the other. Philly has to clean up the penalties as well offensively because they had a couple of killers in this game.Â
Also, another concern is the injuries to Lane Johnson and Cam Jurgens, as both of them left this game with injuries, with Lane leaving after the first quarter of this game with a foot injury. We’ll see how each of those guys progresses throughout the week leading into the NFC tilt in Dallas.
