Denver Broncos Lose Key Offensive Piece For Remainder Of Season
Just when you thought things were looking up for the Denver Broncos, the injury bug bites again, and this time, it took a massive chunk out of the offense. Running Back J.K. Dobbins, the team’s engine and arguably their most dynamic player this season, is officially done for the year.
The final nail in the coffin came on that ugly hip-drop tackle during the Thursday night win against the Raiders in Week 10. After seeking opinions from multiple experts, the verdict was unanimous and grim: Dobbins has a ligament issue in his foot that requires surgery, and just like that, his fantastic debut season in orange and blue is over.
How Was Dobbins Playing?
It’s a brutal blow for a player who has battled back from significant injuries time and time again. This was supposed to be his year. Dobbins was on fire, sitting fifth in the entire league with 772 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. He was averaging a career-high 77.2 yards per game and looked every bit the dominant force the Broncos hoped for when they signed him.
He had finally found a home in Denver and was running with a purpose. Now, he faces another long road to recovery, with free agency looming after this season. It’s a cruel twist of fate for one of the good guys.
What’s Next For the Broncos Backfield?
So, where do the Broncos go from here? The “next man up” philosophy is about to get a serious test. The spotlight now shifts to a young and largely unproven backfield. Get ready to see a whole lot more of rookie RJ Harvey. The second-round pick has shown flashes of explosiveness, including a 50-yard dash against the Titans, but now he’s being thrown into the fire as the lead back. He’s got 214 yards on the season.
Behind him, it’s a committee of question marks. Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin will also see their opportunities spike. Can this trio of youngsters shoulder the load and keep the ground game respectable? Sean Payton and the coaching staff better have a plan, because losing a player of Dobbins’ caliber is a massive void to fill. For now, the “Mile High City” holds its breath and wishes Dobbins a speedy recovery.
