Detroit Pistons Rally Against Wizards; Extend Winning Streak To 7
In a spectacular display of resilience and individual brilliance, Cade Cunningham willed the Detroit Pistons to a thrilling 137-135 overtime victory against the Washington Wizards on Monday night. Cunningham delivered a historic 46-point triple-double, leading a furious late-game comeback to extend the Pistons’ winning streak to seven games.
Detroit Pistons: Cunningham’s Historic Night
Cade Cunningham put the team on his back, delivering a monumental performance that will be remembered for its sheer volume and clutch moments. He finished the game with an incredible stat line of 46 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals. In doing so, he became just the second player in Pistons history, alongside Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, to record a 40-point triple-double.
While his shooting efficiency was low, going 14-for-45 from the field, Cunningham was relentless in his attack. He got to the free-throw line consistently, converting 16 of his 18 attempts, and made the plays that mattered most when the game was on the line. The reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week simply refused to let his team lose.
An Unforgettable Comeback
The Pistons’ victory seemed unlikely late in the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer from the Wizards’ C.J. McCollum gave Washington a 117-108 lead with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. With their winning streak in jeopardy, the Pistons mounted an incredible rally led by their star point guard.
The comeback culminated in a dramatic final sequence. With seconds ticking away, Cunningham drew the defense and found rookie Daniss Jenkins in the corner. Jenkins, who had a season-high 24 points, calmly knocked down the game-tying 3-pointer to send the game to overtime with the score knotted at 127.
In the extra period, the Pistons continued to battle. A 3-pointer from Duncan Robinson with just over a minute left gave Detroit a 134-133 lead they would not relinquish. Despite a season-high 42 points from McCollum, the Wizards couldn’t find an answer in the final seconds, securing the 9-2 Pistons’ dramatic win. The victory was a testament to the team’s grit and the spectacular, high-volume heroics of their franchise player.
