Pittsburgh Steelers Among Teams Linked To Jakobi Meyers
The Pittsburgh Steelers completely revamped their offense in the offseason and will look to add even more at the NFL Trade Deadline. With Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal, Pittsburgh has a limited window to compete for a Super Bowl. With how many offensive players are on the market, the NFL Trade Deadline could be the most active it’s been in years.
Steelers Connected To Jakobi Meyers
After acquiring DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith in the offseason, the Steelers are reportedly in the mix to add more talent on offense. Jeremy Fowler reported that Pittsburgh is in the receiver market and has shown interest in Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers.
“Several teams are believed to be in the receiver market, most notably the Steelers and possibly the Broncos and Bills. Meyers clearly wants out, and the Raiders are in a transitional phase. They just signed veteran Tyler Lockett, which could ease the loss of dealing Meyers. Pittsburgh is keeping tabs on this one but is prepared to be patient, too. If I had to predict a destination right now, I’d say the Steelers.”
He requested a trade out of Vegas before the season started, and will likely be moved at the deadline. Pittsburgh has already made a trade this week, acquiring Kyle Dugger from the New England Patriots. Providing Rodgers with another weapon to work with would be key to keeping pace with opposing offenses. The addition of Dugger will help, but the Steelers’ defense has struggled this season and hasn’t been able to defend the pass consistently.
Along with Meyers, all eyes have been on the New Orleans Saints’ top wideouts. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are also top targets for the Steelers, but both will demand a high price. Olave is the hottest name on the block right now, and could fetch an early pick in Day 2 of the NFL Draft in return. As for Shaheed, New Orleans would likely want an early fourth-round pick in return.
Bills and Broncos Listed As Potential Fits
Along with the Steelers, the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos were also listed as teams in the market for Meyers’ service. The Bills are looking for another receiver every year, whether it’s in the offseason, draft, or at the trade deadline. Meyers would fit nicely alongside Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman.
The Denver Broncos currently sit atop the AFC West and are trying to win their first division title since 2015. With the Kansas City Chiefs winning 5 of their last 6 games, Denver will look to make a splash at the deadline to compete with them. The Broncos have 18 drops this season, which is the second-most in the NFL. Bringing in a consistent pass catcher like Meyers or Shaheed would greatly benefit Bo Nix.
