Minnesota Vikings Lose Quarterback for Remainder of 2025 Season
The Minnesota Vikings are looking to make a postseason run, but have been dealing with quarterback injuries throughout the season. While dealing with the issues under center, the team is still in a position to make the playoffs. However, one of the quarterbacks is now going to miss the remainder of the season, so let’s take a deeper dive into the Vikings’ quarterback depth chart and what it means for the team going forward.
Minnesota Vikings Lose Carson Wentz for Remainder of the Season

The Minnesota Vikings are going to be without quarterback Carson Wentz for the remainder of the 2025 season as he will undergo surgery on his left shoulder. He looked as if he was playing through severe pain during the Vikings’ 37-10 road loss on Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Wentz has been the starting quarterback for the team while J.J. McCarthy has been sidelined since Week 2 with an ankle injury. Wentz finishes his season completing 110 of 169 (65.1%) of his passes for 1,216 yards with six touchdown passes to five interceptions as well as 11 rushing attempts for 57 yards (5.2 yards per carry).
NFL insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that Wentz suffered a dislocation that tore his labrum and fractured the socket of his left shoulder in the first half of the London game back in Week 5. The quarterback suffered through the pain until he could not deal with it any longer.
This is going to be a real test for the Vikings as they sit with a 3-4 record and are going to see what McCarthy can do for the remainder of the season after missing almost two months of action. Wentz is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see what the 33-year-old quarterback will be able to get on the open market.
This will also be a test for coach Kevin O’Connell and the rest of the offense, which currently sits at 18th in scoring (22.1 points per game) and 20th in passing (202.7 yards per game). It will be interesting to see if the offense can improve with McCarthy back under center going forward.
