Dallas Cowboys Dominate Commanders 44-22 In Week 7 Win
The NFC East is a division that is well known for having some of the more exciting and close intra-divisional games in the league throughout its history. However, today’s game between the Cowboys and Commanders was anything but those two things as “America’s Team” dominated the injury-riddled Commanders from the jump. Here’s how the Cowboys were able to put together their best performance of the season to get back to .500 on the year.
Cee Dee Lamb Explodes In His Return
After missing the last three games for Dallas due to an ankle injury, Cowboys superstar Wide Receiver Cee Dee Lamb showed no signs of rust in his return to play. The three-time All-Pro finished the day with 5 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, with 74 of those receiving yards coming on a deep ball hauled in by Lamb that gave the Cowboys a 17-8 advantage in the first quarter. Dallas also continued to get great production out of Wide Receiver George Pickens, as the former Steeler finished with 4 catches for 82 yards in the win.
Dak Prescott Is Playing At An MVP Level
With the 2025 NFL season nearing the halfway point and the MVP discussions ramping up, Cowboys star Quarterback Dak Prescott continues to show he deserves a seat at that table. The three-time Pro-Bowler sliced the Commanders’ defense up for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns while also making history in the process. That three passing touchdown performance officially tied Prescott with Tony Romo for the most 3 touchdown games in Cowboys history, with 40 games.
Brandon Aubrey Sets NFL Record
While Prescott was busy making Cowboys history, the man with the iron leg for Dallas, Brandon Aubrey, decided to get in on the record-breaking action himself. The Cowboys’ kicker drilled a 61-yard field goal early in the second quarter for Dallas. It was the fifth time in Aubrey’s career that he hit a 60+ yard field goal, which is a new NFL record for most 60-yard field goal makes in a career. The two-time All-Pro kicker finished the day going 3-of-3 on field goals, which makes Aubrey a still perfect 16 for 16 on the season for Dallas.
Injuries Pile Up For Washington
Coming into the game, it was reported that the Commanders would be without their three best receivers, Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown, who were all ruled out. That was only the start of the injury issues for Washington, as their star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, would leave the game against the Cowboys after suffering a right hamstring injury in the second half on Sunday.
This injury comes after Daniels had missed two of the Commanders’ previous three games due to a left knee injury. Washington has yet to say how severe the injury is and whether or not the QB will miss any time due to it.
Cowboys’ Defense Shows Signs Of Life
Although the Commanders were missing a cavalcade of weapons on offense, many still expected Washington to light up a Cowboys defense that ranks as one of the worst in the league coming into Sunday. However, the Cowboys were able to put together the best defensive performance of the year so far. The Dallas defense finished the day with an impressive 4 sack performance by the defensive line, to go along with a pick six by Cornerback Daron Bland to push the Cowboys’ lead to 25 late in the third quarter.
Final Thoughts
It was both a historic and impressive performance by a Dallas Cowboys team that has continued to defy preseason expectations. This win also allows Dallas to keep right in contention for both the NFC East race and the playoff hunt.
As for the Commanders, this season is starting to feel more and more like a lost one, with injuries to key players continuing to mount up week after week. While the Eagles are still the top dog in the division for the time being, don’t sleep on the Cowboys making a late-season push to make the race for the NFC East crown a bit more interesting.
