New York Jets Running Back Braelon Allen Faces Extended Sideline Time After MCL Injury
Well, Gang Green faithful, here we go again. Just when you thought the Jets’ injury bug had taken a breather, it came back swinging harder than a Mike Tyson uppercut. Second-year Running Back Braelon Allen is staring down multiple weeks on the shelf after suffering an MCL sprain during Monday night’s gut-wrenching 27-21 loss to Miami.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Allen is likely headed for injured reserve faster than Aaron Rodgers’ championship dreams evaporated last season. The 21-year-old Wisconsin product got twisted up on a kickoff return in the second quarter, and let’s just say his left knee bent in ways that would make a yoga instructor wince.
He walked off under his own power, but after some quality time in the medical tent, he was done for the night. Sometimes the football gods just love watching Jets fans suffer, don’t they?
What This Means For Gang Green’s Ground Game
Before his untimely exit, Allen had managed 26 yards on four carries, though he did cough up the rock near the goal line during what looked like a promising opening drive. Talk about adding insult to injury – literally.
The Backup Plan Behind Breece Hall
With Allen sidelined, the Jets’ rushing attack becomes even more dependent on Breece Hall, who’s already carrying the load as the clear RB1. Allen had been carving out a nice little niche as the reliable second option, totaling 76 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries this season.
Now, Gang Green will have to dig deeper into their depth chart, because asking Hall to handle everything is like expecting one umbrella to keep you dry in a hurricane. The Jets’ coaching staff better start praying their other backs can step up, or this already frustrating season could get uglier.
