When asked about Aiyuk’s recovery from that nasty ACL tear he suffered last season, Lynch didn’t exactly paint a rosy picture. “It’s not close,” Lynch said bluntly, effectively squashing any rumors of an imminent return.
So, what’s the hold-up? According to Lynch, this wasn’t your garden-variety ACL tear. Think of it less like a clean break and more like a bag of potato chips that someone sat on. “Brandon had a fairly significant injury involving a lot of different things in his knee,” Lynch said. So, while Aiyuk is hitting his recovery markers and working hard, the complexity of the injury means the timeline is still a big, fat question mark. Don’t circle Week 6 on your calendar just yet.
What Aiyuk’s Absence Means For the 49ers
Let’s be real: this is a gut punch for an offense that’s already missing key weapons.
