Dallas Goedert Questionable For Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 2 Game At Kansas City
Philadelphia Eagles starting Tight End Dallas Goedert has been listed as questionable on the team’s injury report after spraining his knee in Philly’s Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Goedert has a long history of injuries in his tenure with the team. The 2018 second-round pick has only played a full slate of games once in his first seven seasons with the Eagles. He missed seven games last season.
Goedert’s History
Goedert is a talented tight end whose potential has always been hampered by injuries. After playing every game during his rookie campaign, Goedert missed 23 games over his next six seasons. For his career, the South Dakota State alum has totaled 356 catches on 483 targets for 4129 yards and 24 touchdowns. During Philadelphia’s Super Bowl run last season, he accumulated 42 catches for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns. His current injury is not believed to be long-term, and there is a chance that he could possibly be back by the weekend.
What Losing Goedert Means For Philadelphia In Week 2
Goedert led all Philadelphia receivers in targets and catches in Week 1’s 24-20 division win over the rival Cowboys, hauling in all seven passes thrown his way and totaling 44 yards. Besides being Jalen Hurts’ safety blanket, Goedert is an effective blocker in the run game. The Eagles are fairly thin at tight end behind him. Grant Calcaterra is a decent receiver, but he is a liability in the run game.
Philly’s other tight end, Kylen Granson, struggled just to make the roster this year. Granson had one catch against Dallas for one yard, and Calcaterra played 59% of the Eagles’ offensive snaps, but was not targeted.
Philadelphia travels to Kansas City in Week 2 to face the Chiefs in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl. If Goedert is inactive for the game, the team may be forced to elevate either E.J. Jenkins or Cameron Latu from their practice squad. Jenkins has only one career catch, a seven-yard touchdown last season, in eight career games. Latu, drafted by San Francisco in 2023, has yet to play in an NFL game. Neither option sounds particularly promising for an Eagles’ offense that struggled at times against a mediocre Dallas defense when he was in the lineup.
