New York Giants Are Sticking With Russell Wilson Against Dallas Cowboys In Week 2
Russell Wilson will remain the New York Giants quarterback in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, Head Coach Brian Daboll announced on Monday. The New York Giants took an embarrassing loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, losing 21-6. Will Wilson look better next week?
Giants Will Stick With Russell Wilson Week 2
Wilson went 17-of-37 for 168 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the season-opening loss. He was especially ineffective under pressure, completing just 2 of 12 passes for 26 yards with two sacks and two scrambles. New York managed just 231 yards of total offense and stalled twice in the red zone. The Giants also managed to extend their horrible streak of no touchdowns in their season opener. They have combined for 12 total points in their last three season openers.
Wilson, now 35 years old, started in the first game of the NFL season. Rookie Jaxson Dart, who served as Wilson’s backup on Sunday, was selected by the team in the first round of this year’s draft. Throughout the summer, Dart took the majority of second-team reps and impressed during preseason games by completing 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
However, the situation for the Giants and their quarterbacks will be watched closely by everyone. If Wilson cannot perform to his highest level, it would not surprise anyone if Daboll decides to pull the trigger and go with his new rookie quarterback, who had a sensational preseason.
Wilson can say he does not feel any pressure at the moment from the quarterback situation, but that’s only how he thinks. Daboll and the Giants will have to balance the urge to see the young quarterback against being patient with a veteran quarterback who isn’t what he once was. Since Wilson left the Seattle Seahawks, it has been a tough road for him. He could not get it together in Pittsburgh; now he’s trying to find a home in New York.
Giants Quarterback Situation Is Still the Same
The quarterback position has been frustrating in New York over the past few seasons with Daniel Jones, now who is playing for the Colts, whom he absolutely destroyed the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, making the Giants contradict their decision. As the Giants are still in the predicament, they were a season ago at quarterback. If the New York Giants can manage to get a win against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the pressure would be slightly off Daboll, who is on the hot seat.
