Cleveland Browns Name Week 1 Starter
Cleveland Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski named veteran quarterback Joe Flacco the team’s Week 1 starter against the Cincinnati Bengals. This move did not come as a surprise. This will be Flacco’s 18th NFL season, and he is one of the only healthy quarterbacks on the team’s depth chart. The other three quarterbacks on the depth chart have all been injured at some point this offseason. Will the former Super Bowl champion help the Browns exceed expectations in 2025?
What Led the Cleveland Browns To Make This Decision?
The quarterback situation for the Browns has been one of the most covered stories this training camp. Flacco will lead a QB room that includes veteran Kenny Pickett, rookie Dillon Gabriel, and rookie Shedeur Sanders. The battle between Gabriel and Sanders in training has been covered heavily. In a few days from now, we will know what the rest of the QB depth chart looks like. That is inarguably the most interesting story surrounding the team heading into Week 1.
Cleveland’s offense may be the weakest unit in the league. The Browns will rely on the veteran’s wealth of experience to help steady the ship before the team presumably hands the keys over to one of the three younger quarterbacks. Cleveland’s marquee offensive weapons are Wide Receiver Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku.
Final Thoughts
Cleveland finishes up its preseason at home against the Los Angeles Rams on August 23. With Flacco officially being named the starter, the team can put this issue to bed as they prepare for what they hope is a 2025 season that will go better than many pundits expect.
