Norman Powell Involved in Huge July 3 Team Deal Between Clippers, Jazz, and Heat
On Monday morning, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Clippers, Heat, and Jazz made an interesting three-team trade that involves Norman Powell, John Collins, Kevin Love, and Kyle Anderson. Here are the details of the deal: the Heat get Powell, the Clippers get Collins, and the Jazz get Love, Anderson, and a 2027 second-round pick from the Clippers in the deal. This is a solid trade for both the Heat and the Clippers, as both teams acquire great options to fulfill their needs. However, I think Powell going to Miami is the bigger deal.Â
Why Miami Getting Norman Powell Won This TradeÂ
The Miami Heat needed more scoring at the guard position, especially after they lost Duncan Robinson last week in Free Agency to the Pistons, so for them to only give up Kevin Love and Kevin Anderson to get Powell is a steal. Norman Powell averaged 21.8 points per game last year, which was a career-high in 60 games played for the Clippers last season.Â
He also had great efficiency from three-point range, as he shot 42% from beyond the arc, so you can argue the Heat upgraded big time from Duncan Robinson, as Powell is a more complete player at this point.Â
The Clippers getting John Collins is a nice boost for them as well in the deal, as they needed more big man depth at the power forward spot, but it’s not as sexy as the Heat getting the former Clipper. The Jazz getting Love and Anderson is probably a move to get them off Collins’ contract, so they can acquire the second-rounder and easily buy out their contracts in the end. The Jazz created a huge $26.6M Trade Exception with this deal, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Final Thoughts
The Clippers and Heat both get upgrades, which both teams need at the end of the day, but Miami getting Powell will help them out in the long run in the Eastern Conference Landscape in the 2025-26 season. I also think that the Heat aren’t done yet when it comes to making moves this offseason, so for more of their moves and all of the other moves in the NBA Offseason, stay locked into Total Apex Sports.
