New York Yankees: 4 Game Series Ends in Bronx Today

The 4 game series between the New York Yankees and the Angels concludes today in the Bronx. The Yankees will attempt to salvage one game and not get swept by a bad team in a 4 game series. The Yankees finally won 4-2, though they still struggled at the plate. The Yanks got a great pitching performance from Carlos Rodon in the last game of a 4 game series. New York Yankees and LA Angels Lineups

The Los Angeles Angels had Zach Neto as the shortstop, batting leadoff. Noah Schanuel was the first baseman, batting second. Mike Trout was the designated hitter, batting third. Taylor Ward was the left fielder, batting fourth. Travis d’Arnaud was the catcher and batted fifth. Jo Adell was the right fielder and batted sixth. Austin Wells was the catcher and batted seventh. DJ LeMehieau was the second baseman and batted eighth. Trent Grisham was the center fielder and batted ninth. 

Game Reaction: Avoid the 4 Game Sweep

It was sunny and warm weather as the game started, 89 degrees Fahrenheit to be exact. However, it started to pour in the first inning. Severe storms were possible after 5 pm, but as it showed, it could rain at any moment. It started to rain again in the second inning.

Though two innings pitched in game 4, Yankee starting pitcher Carlos Rodon had given up two home runs. He is susceptible to those. It could be a long day.

As part of Hope Week, Carmine and Vincent Gagliano, who both have muscular dystrophy, called the game in the top of the third inning on television. Gold glove shortstop Volpe made a horrible folding error last night in the eighth inning of a tie game. The four Most Valuable players on the team (Judge, Stanton, Goldschmidt, and Bellinger) held a players-only meeting before the game yesterday. It did not work. It is odd to have a 4 game series. The Yankees have only played two 4 game series this season so far. After wrapping up this 4 game series, they start a new one with the Baltimore Orioles.

Scoring Summary

However, in the bottom of the first inning, Giancarlo Stanton drove in a run on a groundout. He tied the score at 1.

In the second inning, Jo Adell hit a solo home run. The Angels took a 2-1 lead in the fourth game of the 4 game series.

In the second inning, Grisham hit a two-run home run as both he and LeMahieu scored. The Yankees took a 3-2 lead. Then Goldschmidt hit a solo home run, and the Yankees led 4-2.

In the sixth inning, Ward hit a solo home run. The Yankees’ lead was 4-3. This game was still in doubt.

In the seventh inning, Bellinger hit a single and Grisham scored. It was now 5-3 Yankees.

In the eighth inning, Volpe grounded out, and Judge scored. That made it 6-3 Yankees. Wells then hit a sacrifice fly and Dominguez scored. It was 7-3 Yankees.

Final Thoughts

The four runs the New York Yankees had scored through the second inning it was the most runs the Yankees have scored since June 11 in Kansas City. They feast off of left-handed pitching, and the Angels’ starter, Tyler Anderson, for this 4 game series was left-handed. He gave up some bombs in the game. While it was good to see the Yankees hit home runs, they need to manufacture some runs. They start a series against the Orioles tomorrow at 7:05. That presents another opportunity.
