Green Bay Packers Receive Zero 2026 Compensatory Picks After Free Agency Spending Spree
The Green Bay Packers have always wanted to build through the draft. However, since GM Brian Gutekunst arrived in Green Bay, he has taken a more aggressive approach in free agency. Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Josh Jacobs, and Xavier McKinney have all been signed to free-agent deals by Gutekunst. This free agency period was no different. The team signed OL Aaron Banks and DB Nate Hobbs to deals this offseason. Because of the spending spree, we know that the Packers will not receive any compensatory picks in 2026.
Green Bay Packers Getting Zero Compensatory Picks in 2026
The NFL gives out compensatory picks to teams that lose players in free agency. The Green Bay Packers have historically been on the receiving end of these picks, but not this offseason. Banks got a four-year, $77 million contract, and Hobbs got a $48 million deal. The only players they lost were DT TJ Slaton and CB Eric Stokes. All of the spending cancels out the picks the team would receive for the players lost.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Green Bay Packers would rather have the two free agents than some day three picks. While there is some debate about how effective these two will be, they are undoubtedly more proven than a sixth or seventh-round pick. It leaves the team with a very unexciting draft profile for 2026 as of this moment.
2026 Draft Picks
The Green Bay Packers own all of their picks for the 2026 NFL Draft. They have one in each round that is their original pick. Many fans have been wanting the team to make a big splash by trying to acquire a player like Trey Hendrickson. However, Gutekunst and the Packers have historically not engaged in major trades, electing to keep their draft capital. It has worked out well in recent years with many starters coming via the draft.
The team could also add some draft capital depending on how the rest of the offseason goes. There is a logjam at wide receiver, which has led many to speculate on trades for some of the players. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson have been the most popular names due to the team selecting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in this year’s draft.
Final Thoughts
The Green Bay Packers aren’t sweating the compensatory picks. While they are nice for trading on draft day, the team is trying to win now with the core they have.
