Shedeur Sanders Secures a Big 4-Year Contract
Shedeur Sanders made national news not even a month ago with his free fall from glory to the bottom of the barrel on draft day. As it stands, the Browns are viewing their 144th overall pick to be worth the sum of 4.6 million over the next four years. Not too shabby for a day three draftee. Only time will tell if this was a good sign or a poor use of money. Let’s dive into it together.
Shedeur Sanders Inks Contract
It wasn’t that long ago that we here at Total Apex predicted the fall of Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 draft. But not even advanced crystal balls and star-seeking skills could have seen this contract. As of this writing, the contract is for 4.6 million and four years.Â
Fellow draftee Dillon Gabriel is projected to sign for four years at 6.22 million. This may not be the ideal contract that Shedeur Sanders wanted, as he had lofty dreams of going in the first round. It is still noteworthy that Sanders came to a signed contract before his fellow quarterback competition did.
Shedeur Sanders: Is He Worth It?
The real question that everyone is asking is if Shedeur Sanders is going to be the next Tom Brady. He was drafted late, played with a chip on his shoulder, and waited for the opportunity to prove himself. The quick answer is no, Shedeur Sanders will not be anywhere near Tom Brady, and most likely won’t even be a decent backup quarterback unless drastic improvement is made. We covered this in previous articles on Shedeur Sanders, as his skills were not very good, in a bad division of college football.
The contract shows that they have a Hail Mary that could potentially pay off if all the stars align. But with Deshaun Watson out, the Browns are leaning on veteran Joe Flacco. With that sentence alone, it is no wonder the Browns decided to get Gabriel and Sanders. At this point, the Browns are playing a numbers game. One of them has to do well, right?
My money would be on Flacco at this point, he proved he could get the job done when he played for the Colts last year as an interim quarterback. But between the two rookies, it just doesn’t seem like Sanders can pull it off. But I have been wrong before, and crazier things have happened.
Wrap Up
The Browns have set themselves up in a positive way to take on the 2025 season with a veteran quarterback in Flacco, and have young talent behind him eager and willing to learn. “As Iron Sharpens Iron, so one person sharpens another” This seems to be the hope with competition between Sheduer Sanders and Gabriel. However, the contract in the long run will be an overpay for an underperforming quarterback.
