Cleveland Cavaliers Guard Darius Garland Ruled Out For Game 1 Against Indiana Pacers
Shortly before the start of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cavaliers announced that All-Star Guard Darius Garland would be sidelined. Garland had previously missed the final two games of the Cavaliers first-round series against the Miami Heat due to a sprained left toe. During media availability before Game 1, Cavaliers Head Coach Kenny Atkinson announced the point guard’s status heading into the series is currently day-to-day.
How Did Darius Garland Get Hurt?
Garland suffered the injury during the regular season and reaggravated it during game 2 against the Heat. Coach Atkinson also reiterated during his press conference that the Cavs medical staff had been putting him through contact drills in the days leading up to Game 1. While it is still unclear when he will return for the Cavs, it was announced that there is currently no structural damage to the left toe.
Final Thoughts
The Cavs must rely on backup Point Guard and Sixth Man of the Year finalist, Ty Jerome, to lead the offense. Jerome is averaging over 16 points per game in the playoffs, but the Cavs will certainly miss DG’s playmaking ability.
