Green Bay Packers Ink Fifth-Round Pick To 4-Year Deal
The Green Bay Packers have been busy since the 2025 NFL Draft ended. They have been preparing the invites for the upcoming rookie minicamp while also beginning the negotiations with their draft picks. While most contracts with draft picks get figured out easily, some can be drawn out depending on various factors. The Packers have officially signed the first member of their 2025 NFL Draft class, inking linebacker Collin Oliver to a four-year deal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it is a four-year, $4.6 million deal for the linebacker out of Oklahoma State. This contract is right in line with what day three picks make in the NFL. The Collective Bargaining Agreement limits the negotiating power for later round picks. Usually, the advantage of getting selected earlier is a massive signing bonus. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the fifth round, adding to their young linebacker room.
Oliver missed last year due to injury, but continues a theme of versatility for the Green Bay Packers. In four years as a Cowboy, he racked up 134 total tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 23.5 sacks (including an 11.5 sack season), and five forced fumbles. He will be another weapon that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley can deploy to try to slow down the elite offenses in the NFC North.
Can The Defense Improve Again?
The Green Bay Packers’ defense took a huge leap last year. For years, the defense struggled to stop opposing offenses, leading to some devastating late-season losses. Hafley came in and immediately made a difference. Green Bay was an above-average defense last season, with many key players like Jaire Alexander missing time.
If the players can get more comfortable in year two, this could be a top-ten defense in the league. That would help Jordan Love and the offense immensely. While the running game excelled under Josh Jacobs, the passing game struggled at times. It would help to take pressure off the offense by having an elite defense.
Final Thoughts
Rookie minicamps begin today, so we will likely see many rookies ink new deals. Collin Oliver is the first of the rookie class to sign. Hopefully, we will see more pens hit the paper this weekend in Green Bay.
