Green Bay Packers Select Texas Edge Rusher In 4th Round Of NFL Draft
The Green Bay Packers have been offensive-minded in the first two days of the draft. For the first time since 2002, they took a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft, Texas WR Matthew Golden. On day two, they added to their offensive line and another wide receiver. As day three kicked off, GM Brian Gutekunst decided to take another player from the Longhorns. They added a rookie for the defense, taking edge rusher Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round.

The Green Bay Packers have a solid group of edge rushers, but depth is always a good thing to have on the defensive line. Furthermore, Sorrell has shown a prowess in the run game that makes him more than a third-down rusher. In the highlight reel on NFL Network, they showcased his ability to get off the block and stop the run. Last season, he racked up 44 total tackles with 11 of them for loss while also adding six sacks.
This is the first new piece for Jeff Hafley’s defense. The fact that the team bolstered the offense in the first three rounds tells you how they feel about their defense. For the past five years, they’ve added first-round talent, and they seem pleased with Hafley’s plan for this crew. Now, they can focus on adding complementary pieces and hopefully finding the diamond in the rough.
Final Thoughts
There was an added special moment with this pick. Sorrell was in the green room and was able to come out on stage for the Green Bay Packers fan. This is another solid piece for the Packers. Can their defense continue to improve and help Jordan Love and the offense?
