New York Giants Shake Up 2025 NFL Draft By Selecting Jaxson Dart
The New York Giants reportedly entered the 2025 NFL Draft looking to draft a quarterback. By trading back into the 1st Round Thursday night they accomplished that. New York drafted Ole Miss Quarterback Jaxson Dart No. 25 overall. Head Coach Brian Daboll wasted no time in saying Quarterback Russell Wilson will be the team’s starter in 2025. What caused the New York Giants to draft Dart?
New York Giants Have a Crowded Quarterback Room
Daboll reportedly grew infatuated with Dart throughout the pre-draft process. On Friday morning, there was new reporting that gave clarity on the team’s decision to trade back into the round to select Dart. New York believes Dart could build a great culture with the New York Giants. The team also believes the young quarterback is a great leader and a top-flight competitor. New York was also drawn to Dart’s on-field play. They were impressed by his arm strength and success on deep throws.
Thursday night’s decision was a controversial one by the New York Giants brass. By signing Wilson and Quarterback Jameis Winston this offseason, it seemed the team was set at the position heading into the year. Instead, they opted to triple down at the position and paid a hefty price.
Final Thoughts
Dart will not see the field much this season. He will entrenched as third string on the depth chart behind Wilson and Winston. Dart hopes to learn under the tutelage of the veterans to be a full-time starter in 2026. This a risky move by Daboll and General Manager Joe Schoen. With their jobs hanging in the balance, they drafted a player in the first round that will not contribute to winning this year.
