New York Giants Select Abdul Carter With 3rd Overall Pick

The New York Giants have selected EDGE Abdul Carter from Penn State with their first-round (3rd overall) pick. The Giants are looking to change the direction that the franchise has been heading in lately. Recent first round picks have either ended up leaving (Saquon Barkley) or not working out (Daniel Jones). We’ll see how this pick is looked at years from now.

The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year who led the FBS with 23.5 tackles for loss is just what the Giants need to improve their defense. He will be a nightmare for quarterbacks, especially in the NFC East. He possesses great range, tremendous burst of speed, and overall explosiveness. He played linebacker as well as edge rusher during his time at Penn State. Many experts consider Carter to be the only clear generational talent, other than Travis Hunter in this year’s draft. His first step ability and timing off the ball is simply incredible which translates immediately to the fast pace of the NFL. 

Team Needs

The New York Giants have needs at several positions going into this year’s draft. Those include Quarterback, Offensive Line, Linebacker, Defensive Line, Cornerback, and EDGE. Abdul Carter makes the Giants a better defensive team right away.

A team can’t afford to get a top five pick wrong in the draft. Abdul Carter is the correct choice as the Giants look to get back to being a team their fans can be proud of. Carter can become another great defensive player for the G-Men, with the chance to join a list that includes Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan.
