Tennessee Titans Believe They Have QB of the Future In Cam Ward No. 1 Overall Pick in NFL Draft
The 2025 NFL draft stage has been set over the course of the last year. All eyes of the football world will be on the Tennessee Titans, waiting for their first pick after winning only three games in the 2024 season. The team has many needs to fill on its roster. Many fans and spectators wondered what Tennessee would do with the first pick, and rumors of a trade started to float around NFL circles. With the first pick in the NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans have selected Cam Ward, quarterback from Miami. We will take a close look at the pick in this article.
Tennessee Titans Believe They Have QB of the Future
The Titans’ head coach, as well as the general manager, sat down for their pre-draft press conference on Tuesday and pretty much confirmed they would be picking Cam Ward to everyone watching around the league. The Titans also spoke on having the best player available philosophy going into this draft, confirming Ward’s status as the best QB in the draft.
They spoke about other positions of need at running back and tight end that fans are hoping they address in later rounds. However, the main thing that the Titans needed, and any NFL team needed, was a quarterback, and now the Titans have a brand new one.
Cam Ward: Zero Star to the Number One Pick In the 2025 NFL Draft
Uniquely, Ward was an actual zero-star recruit coming out of high school, which is the reason why he flew under so many radars for so long. There is actually a very good reason why this happened. Cam Ward’s high school coach ran a Wing-T style offense. Basically, they wanted to throw the football as little as possible by design of the offense. Once Ward reached college, where he could finally show off his arm talent, he took off.
Since his freshman year, he has slowly but steadily climbed the rankings of scouts and recruiters from bigger programs as well as the NFL. It would seem that everything came together for Ward at just the right time, too. When teams became bullish on Sheadur Sanders due to his combine and various interviews with teams, it put Cam Ward’s film under a closer microscope. Clearly, in both cases of film and interview with teams, he showed scouts and executives what they wanted to see.
Cam Ward’s College Resume Is Top Tier
Cam Ward played for three different college programs in his collegiate career. He played for 5 years in college, which has become fashionable for successful NFL QBs entering the league for the last few years. Jayden Daniels, CJ Stroud, and Bo Nix, among others, also benefited from having extra starts in college. He thrived in air raid-style offenses, throwing for over 4,000 yards twice in his college career. Ward was named the 2024 ACC Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-Pro.
In his one season for the Miami Hurricanes, Ward also averaged 9.5 yards per completion and threw for 39 touchdowns. Coming off of being just shy of a 4,000 and 40 season in a big-name school facing SEC competition teams, the Titans feel confident that Cam Ward can do everything required of him at the next level.
