Kemba Walker has agreed to join Ice Cube’s BIG3 League
Former Charlotte Hornets and Boston Celtics Point Guard Kemba Walker will suit up in the BIG3. The news was reported by Chris Haynes a few days ago. This move is a huge acquisition for the BIG3 founder Ice Cube. Especially when it comes to getting players that younger fans will recognize easily.
No matter who he will be playing with, this is a big grab as Walker was the definition of clutch, and the BIG3 has some of the craziest close games as the Race to 50 gets intense. Walker’s game suits the BIG3 style as well, with his great handles and ability to shoot the rock. Here’s a brief look back at Walker’s career to get an idea of why this move is so good for Cube.
Hornets Career
Walker with the Hornets was lethal. He finished 11th in the Rookie of the Year award race in 2011-12 after his famous run with the UConn Huskies the season before that made him “Cardiac Kemba.” Walker, in his Hornets career, was one of the most underrated point guards.
In his eight years in “The Queen City,” he averaged 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Walker had three of his All-Star appearances in Charlotte, along with his only NBA All-Third Team selection. Meanwhile, his Boston years were also some highlights for him as well but not as much as when he was a Hornet.
Kemba Walker’s Celtics Career
In his two years with the Celtics, “Cardiac Kemba” had an All-Star appearance in his first year with the team, along with averaging 19.9 points per game in the regular season during his tenure in Boston. He did have a disappointing 20-21 playoffs. He averaged only 12 points per game in the three games he played. But he was still electric at times in that first season in Celtics Green.
Final Thoughts
Looking through Walker’s career does remind people that he was a great point guard and should bring excitement to the BIG3 this summer. Guys in the late 2000s and early 2010s should be entering the league like Dwight Howard, etc. I think he will be one of those impact-type guys that will get the BIG3 attention this summer.
