Milwaukee Brewers Make History In 1st Inning On Way To Blowout Win
The Milwaukee Brewers made Major League Baseball history in the bottom of the first inning Sunday afternoon. They are the first team to steal six stolen bases in a half-inning since at least 1969. Milwaukee finished the game with a whopping nine stolen bases. Milwaukee’s stolen base prowess led to four 1st inning runs.
Second Baseman Brice Turang finished with three stolen bases and Right Fielder Sal Frelick had a pair of stolen bases. The Milwaukee Brewers had a tremendous offensive performance to win 14-1 and take two of three games this weekend over the Athletics. Will the bevy of stolen bases become a part of Milwaukee’s game plan?
Milwaukee Brewers Season History
It has been a mediocre start to the season for the Brewers. They are 12-10 and in second place in the National League Central. Milwaukee’s offense has been middling. They are 14th in batting average, 15th in home runs, fifth in runs scored, and the league leader in stolen bases. A stolen base barrage on Sunday put them ahead of the Seattle Mariners in that category.
Milwaukee’s pitching staff has also been average. They are 18th in ERA, 12th in strikeouts, and 19th in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Freddy Peralta has been the star of the rotation. He is 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA. He is 11th in the league in ERA and 12th in strikeouts.Â
Final Thoughts
The Milwaukee Brewers will head West for a four-game series with the San Francisco Giants beginning on Monday. Milwaukee had lofty expectations heading into the regular season but has done nothing to differentiate itself from the rest of the league. They need better production on offense and on the mound for the team to reach its full potential.
