Dennis Schroder Traded Three Times By NBA Trade Deadline

Point Guard Dennis Schroder was traded three times by the end of the NBA’s trade deadline on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The Detroit Pistons acquired Schroder, 31, from the Utah Jazz on Thursday. This trade will be Dennis Schroder’s fourth stop of the 2024-25 NBA season. Schroder began the 2024-25 season with the Brooklyn Nets, was traded to the Golden State Warriors, and was traded again to the Jazz as part of a five-team deal that sent Small Forward Jimmy Butler to the Warriors. Butler, 35, was speculated to be part of the Warriors’ short-term plans before the Warriors possibly start a rebuild.

Small Forward KJ Martin, who was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Pistons on Wednesday, and Shooting Guard Josh Richardson, who was traded from the Miami Heat to the Pistons in the Butler trade, will head to the Jazz in exchange for Schroder. Schroder’s fourth stop of the 2024-25 season should be a wait-and-see experiment, as Schroder is well-known for his ball-handling, play-making, and ability to score.

Dennis Schroder, the Atlanta Hawks’ 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Phantoms Braunschweig, has averaged 14 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.3% from the field and 34.3% from downtown in 12 NBA seasons. In the 2024-25 NBA season, Schroder has been averaging 14.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 41.8% from the field and 35.8% from downtown.

KJ Martin, the Sacramento Kings’ 52nd overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of IMG Academy, has averaged 8.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 54.8% from the field and 33.8% from downtown in four NBA seasons. In the 2024-25 NBA season, Martin has been averaging 6.4 points, 3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, while shooting 61.6% from the field and 38.1% from downtown.

Aside from Martin, Josh Martin, the Miami Heat’s 40th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft has averaged 11.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.6 points per game while shooting 42.8% from the field and 36.3% from downtown in 11 NBA seasons. Martin has been averaging 4 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 28.9% from the field and 27.3% from downtown this year.

Dennis Schroder was one of the final trades made minutes before the NBA’s trade deadline ended. Schroder can be described as a journeyman and veteran point guard, but he’s still a versatile player who can play as a starter on or off the bench. Schroder can be a deadly threat when attacking downhill while providing a change of pace with his stellar ability to get to the rim.

The Golden State Warriors wrote a “Thank You” post for Schroder on their Instagram account. However, Dennis Schroder’s comment to the Warriors’ post has attracted mucg attention, mainly for the wrong reasons. Schroder wrote, “wasn’t even worth my own post huh? thx too tho.” Schroder’s comment wasn’t 100% wrong, as multiple sources have reported that his relationship with the Warriors has been “somewhat strained” and commented that his playing style doesn’t fit well with the Warriors’ system.

The Detroit Pistons (25-26) will host the Philadelphia 76ers (20-30) in Little Caesars Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. The Pistons are looking to snap a two-game losing skid and eyeing the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The 76ers look to start a new winning streak and keep hope alive to make the postseason. Schroder might push Guard Marcus Sasser out of the Pistons’ rotation if he becomes a primary backup point guard for the Pistons.
