New England Patriots Hire New Offensive Coordinator

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots hired their former assistant coach, Josh McDaniel, as the next offensive coordinator.  McDaniels is returning to New England after a failed head coaching outing in Las Vegas. He was let go midseason in 2023. McDaniels first became the Patriots offensive coordinator in 2006. He was a highly regarded offensive coordinator in New England during the Brady-Belichick Era. Can McDaniels turn around the struggles of the Patriots to winning ways?

Josh McDaniel’s Returns To the New England Patriots

Now that McDaniels is back in New England, his priority will be developing Quarterback Drake Maye. Maye is coming off a successful rookie season in which he threw 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and looked like a future franchise quarterback. McDaniels helped Mac Jones in his rookie season to a Pro Bowl in 2021.

McDaniels has been with the New England Patriots for 13 seasons. As an assistant under head coach Bill Belichick, he won six Super Bowls with the Patriots. He is very familiar with the team’s standards and will look to get them back on track.

There has been much turnover in New England’s coaching staff in the past few seasons. The New England Patriots were also rumored to interview Chicago Bears Interim Head Coach Thomas Brown, Los Angeles Chargers Passing Game Coordinator Marcus Brady, and Minnesota Vikings Assistant Quarterbacks Coach Grant Udinski for the offensive coordinator job.

Final Thoughts

The New England Patriots have not made the playoffs since 2021 when they lost to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card game. The Patriots have had losing seasons since and are in last place in the AFC East. They have not made the playoffs in three seasons, and used to rule the division. The last Super Bowl appearance came in 2018 when they defeated the LA Rams. The New England Patriots have the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and will look to rebuild their team.

Newly hired Head Coach Mike Vrabel will look to McDaniels to help the New England Patriots get back to being dominant in the AFC East Division and be contenders for the playoffs.
