Acquisition Of Amari Cooper Proves Buffalo Bills Are All In

The Buffalo Bills acquired Wide Receiver Amari Cooper earlier this week.

Wide Receiver Amari Cooper was acquired by the Buffalo Bills in a trade with the Cleveland Browns earlier this week. The move involved multiple draft picks being swapped. Buffalo acquired a bona-fide No. 1 target for Quarterback Josh Allen, who has struggled at times over the last two weeks to find an open receiver.

Buffalo Bills Acquire Amari Cooper

The Buffalo Bills moved on from their number one and number two receivers in the offseason. The Bills traded Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for a second-round pick and let Gabe Davis go in free agency to the Jacksonville Jaguars. At the time, the Bills felt that they didn’t need a number one wide receiver to fill their X position. In HIS last 13 games, Stefon Diggs did not have a 100-yard game. The Bills turned to Running Back James Cook to carry the offense over the last eight games. The results were a six-and-two record.

The Reason For Acquiring Amari Cooper

Through six games in 2024, the Bills’ leading receiver has less than 250 yards, and Josh Allen has not passed for 1500 yards yet. Those numbers had to get better. After the New York Jets acquired WR Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders earlier in the day, the Buffalo Bills made a chess move by acquiring Cleveland Browns star Amari Cooper. The Bills needed a top receiver after back-to-back losses against the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. Buffalo’s offense failed to create one-on-one matchups that favored their wide receivers. It was time for the team to acquire one of the best route-running receivers in the NFL.

No matter where Amari Cooper has gone in his NFL career, he has been successful. He has played for the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. His best season came in 2023 with the Cleveland Browns, when he caught 72 passes for 1250 yards and five touchdowns. The most catches he has caught in a season is 92 with the Cowboys in six out of 10 seasons in the NFL he has surpassed 1000 yards receiving. Pairing Cooper with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, his numbers are only going to make those numbers go up.

Final Thoughts

By acquiring Amari Cooper, the Buffalo Bills proved that they are still competing for a Super Bowl in 2024. GM Brandon Beane found a gem and didn’t overspend on a marquee receiver like Adams. Buffalo gets a proven matchup nightmare for under $1 million in salary for the rest of the season. A smart move for the Buffalo Bills. The Bills will play at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in a matchup that could be Cooper’s first game as a Buffalo Bill. “Bills Mafia” cannot wait for the Allen to Cooper connection to get started. He will wear jersey number 18 in Buffalo.
