Derek Carr Expected to Miss Multiple Weeks with Injury Ahead of Week 6

Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are coming off a tough 26-13 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football and in the game, we saw quarterback Derek Carr suffer an oblique injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. There have been more reports almost 24 hours later and the injury that Carr suffered is expecting him to be sidelined for a few weeks. Let’s take a closer look as to what that means for the Saints going forward.

The New Orleans Saints are in a bit of a predicament right now as NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport are reporting that quarterback Derek Carr has suffered an oblique injury that is expected to make him miss the next few games. That is brutal for the Saints, who are currently 2-3 and 11th in the NFC entering Week 6. This could not come at a worse time as the New Orleans Saints are set to play their next two games in a nine-day span, as they play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Week 6 and Week 7’s Thursday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos.

The backup quarterback for the team is Jake Haener, who is 2-of-8 for 17 yards and has a 23.2 QBR this season. There is also a belief that rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler could be in the mix for the starting job. Nothing is set in stone as of this writing. This also puts into question if the team is going to be as aggressive in trading for wide receiver Davante Adams, who has listed the Saints as a team he would want to go to due to the Fresno State connection with Derek Carr.

The Athletic’s Josina Anderson is reporting that the injury to Carr does not change things for New Orleans, but things were stagnant for the two sides before Derek Carr’s injury. While nothing is definitive right now, it is clear that the New Orleans Saints are going to be in a difficult spot under center for at least the next two weeks, but it is not certain that he will be ready for Week 8’s game as well.
