Alex Pereira proved himself again that he is one of the most dangerous fighters in his division. Thus, at UFC 307 this Saturday, Alex Pereira defended the light heavyweight title for the second time. To everyone’s surprise, he ended the fight with a knockout in the fourth round against Khalil Rountree Jr.
This is a massive win for Pereira because he already went to war before this card, where he saved the events of UFC, such as UFC 300 and UFC 303. Pereira was not yet ready to spend the year without a fight, and he confirmed to fight the No. 8-ranked fighter, Khalil Rountree.
Khalil Rountree Jr. After the Fight
Khalil Rountree Jr. had many kind words after the fight, and it seemed that he did not have any regrets, as he expressed appreciation to everyone. In his first post-fight interview, he accepted the loss but talked about the knowledge he gained after fighting with Poatan. Rountree drained all his energy in the first rounds and even after bleeding severely and being tired, he did not give up and gave his all to the match.
Khalil Rountree talked about his growth after fighting Pereira in these words. “I didn’t win the title but grew last night. Alex Pereira, thanks for helping me see that I’m ready to take on the world. You showed amazing skill, you brought out a version of me that I needed to experience. You’re the champ for a reason, much respect. But I now know what I am capable of.”
Striking by Alex Pereira
The UFC world thought that Rountree would not be a match for Pereira and would be knocked out in the first round. However, Rountree performed well because he started the match with full enthusiasm. From the first bell, he tried to land powerful punches on Pereira.
However, this strategy did not work for Rountree, as it led to his exhaustion in the middle of the fight as Alex Pereira took the initiative. Rountree almost continuously looked terrible by the end of the fourth round, as blood was oozing out of his face and chest because of the heavy beating from Pereira. That culminated the fight, with Pereira landing two body shots before delivering an uppercut that put Rountree down.
The referee immediately intervened and stopped the fight before further injuries were done. The challenger was badly injured, and he had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Alex Pereira is insanely famous, and because of that, he had no problem selling himself. However, Rountree had serious problems with that.
The Notorious had something special before UFC 307. Conor McGregor took it to X to announce to his followers that he would put significant money on the knockout. McGregor also confirmed that the fight was well-balanced. He won $200k by betting an insane amount, $1 million, on a knockout finish by any of the fighters.
Final Thoughts
After the outstanding win by Alex Pereira, he was ready for the post-fight press conference. He disclosed that he intends to continue competing in the 205-pound division to continue making his title defense rather than move into a new weight class. This means he will not be fighting Dricus du Plessis anytime soon because he is in the middleweight division.
McGregor wanted Alex Pereira to move up to the heavyweight division, and he claimed he would not watch Pereira’s next bout unless it was in the heavyweight division. What are your thoughts about Alex Pereira’s upcoming matches?
