Several teams in college football, including the Texas Longhorns, were off last week. Regardless, they captured 52 of 61 votes this week to retake first place in the poll. This is optimal for Texas as they move into the SEC portion of the schedule.

Falling off the cliff officially occurred one week ago. Texas played well, but Vanderbilt’s surprise victory over Alabama led to more first-place votes. In a raucous turn of events, Vanderbilt was fined $100,000 for fans running onto the field in celebration. The Commodores will take on the Texas Longhorns at the end of October in Nashville. They will no doubt take that matchup more seriously, given the weekend results.
Despite the Texas Longhorns’ break on Saturday, AP voters still awarded them the top spot. They are the third team since 2008 to accomplish this feat. In fact, according to ESPN, they are “the first team in two years to bounce in and out of the top spot in a span of three polls.” The Longhorns will face the Oklahoma Sooners next week on neutral ground in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl.
