NFL Power Rankings: Commanders Soar To Top 5

NFL Power Rankings have the Commanders skyrocketing up.

This week’s NFL Power Rankings shocked fans and critics alike. The Washington Commanders are ranked in the top five. The Commanders moved up this week’s rankings from No .14 in Week Three to No. 5. Beating the Arizona Cardinals on the road 42-12, the now 3-1 Commanders will play Week Five at home against the Cleveland Browns. The 1-3 Browns lost against the Las Vegas Raiders 20-16 in Week Four.

The secrets to the Commanders’ success are obvious: Strong protection of rookie starting Quarterback Jayden Daniels, a strong and healthy offensive line, and a strong grip on controlling the game clock. In addition, the solid kicking performance of Austin Seibert and the unforgettable performances of Daniels cannot be understated or ignored. It’s been a great season for the team thus far. Where will Washington be in the NFL Power Rankings After Week 5?

NFL Power Rankings: Commanders In Elite Company

Sports Illustrated’s NFL Power Rankings has the 4-0 Kansas City Chiefs at No. 1.  Rounding out the top five are the 3-1 Detroit Lions at No. 2, the undefeated Minnesota Vikings at No.3, and the Green Bay Packers who are ranked No.4 at 2-2.

SI’s Conor Orr writes:

” What a night for Commanders fans, who truly and honestly deserve all of this. It’s no longer a wild thought to imagine the Commanders making the playoffs. Or…winning the dang NFC East outright.

“Their upcoming schedule has dates with middling opponents like Cleveland, Carolina, Chicago and the Giants again (sandwiched in with dates against the Ravens, Steelers, Eagles and Cowboys). While I would caution us all to give Jayden Daniels some space to grow and make mistakes, how special could this season be?”

When it comes to Orr’s concerns about how the Commanders respond to success from Daniels to being a Top Five team this week in the NFL Power Rankings, they’re remaining consistently humble. Last week, ESPN reported Head Coach Dan Quinn focused on Jayden’s healthy growth. His biggest concern in that area is the comparisons to previous quarterbacks. Quinn said, “I definitely understand our fan base has been waiting for the franchise QB, but I also don’t want Jayden feeling any ghosts, making sure he understands there’s only one name on the back of that jersey and that’s for him.”

NFL Power Rankings: Commanders Remaining Humble

Should Commanders fans be worried about a season crash? Are the NFL Power Rankings a jinx? Only time will tell. However, Quinn cited the work ethic of Daniels Monday when speaking to the press as key to all the good that’s happening. “But to think he would start like this, no, I don’t think anybody would’ve said that. But what I would say is, if you’re around him, you feel his work ethic. There’s no magic pixie dust that we’re throwing into him. It is absolutely grinding, working, and a lot of confidence comes from that because he can enter the game knowing he put the work in,” he said, according to Pro Football Talk.

Daniels has completed an NFL record 82.1 percent of his passes through the first four games, throwing for 897 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He’s also rushed for 218 yards with four touchdowns. The roster remains somewhat healthy. The only personnel news comes from the Commanders’ practice squad. According to USA Today’s Steelerswire, the Steelers plan to sign veteran Guard Max Scharping.  If the Commanders can keep this level of stability through Week Five, expect more jumps in the NFL Power Rankings as the weeks go by.
