Guardiola Certain Talented 24-Year-Old Will Regain Form

Although Phil Foden hasn’t quite reached the heights he attained last season, Pep Guardiola believes his campaign is just about to take off. The manager, speaking ahead of Man City’s clash against Slovan Bratislava stated he is not worried about the 24-year-old’s performance. The Spaniard believes Foden will get back to his regular form with time.

Guardiola Has No Doubt About Foden

Foden was voted PFA Player of the Year after scoring 28 goals in all competitions for club and country. However, he has started just once this season in a League Cup match against Watford and has featured as a substitute in the last four of his five games this season. In a press conference earlier today, Guardiola said: “Maybe I can have some doubts in many things, but Phil Foden is going to be back! As much as he feels good, he will be back. I think in 30 minutes at St James’ Park [in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Saturday], I felt already something that I like that I didn’t see for example against Watford.”

Man City’s match against Bratislava, who were thrashed 5-1 by Celtic in their Champions League opener could provide Foden with the opportunity to score his first goal of the season. Don’t forget after the Euros he didn’t have any training for two months, he had problems with some niggles and some problems in his health,” Guardiola said. “But now he is smiling and he’s in his rhythm.

“He was the best player in the Premier League last season so we need him, he was important for us, but I have no doubts with his love for football and his training and passion, he will be back.”

Guardiola Reflects On Champions League

City’s first Champions League group stage match was against Inter Milan and it ended in a goalless draw. On Tuesday, Pep Guardiola’s squad is anticipated to cruise past Bratislava. Guardiola said: “I have incredible respect for all the teams in the Champions League, especially when you play away. Hopefully, we can be aggressive and take the result that we need.” I have learned [in my career] that nothing is for granted. Nothing comes for free.”

City defender John Stones highlighted a crucial moment from Euro 2024, where the England team faced a nail-biting near exit against Slovakia in the last 16. However, England managed to clinch a 2-1 victory and ended up reaching the final. Stones said: “We know the quality that they’ve got. That game went right to the wire, they made it so difficult and we know that tomorrow night they will be well organized and it will be an incredible atmosphere.”

Conclusion

Manchester City travel to Tehelne Pole to face Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Tuesday. Slovan Bratislava suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Celtic in their first Champions League fixture. On the other hand, Man City played a goalless draw with Inter Milan at the Etihad.
