Is Logan Sargeant Making a Move to Meyer Shank in 2025?

Logan Sargeant

Logan Sargeant is out at Williams F1 Racing after team principal John Vowles made a shocking announcement in August. After several disastrous incidences on the track, Vowles had no choice but to part ways with the 23-year-old due to the heavy burden of costs associated with replacing and making continuous repairs to equipment. Sargeant has also failed to secure a single win with the team since he signed in 2023, and there’s speculation this may also factor into the driver’s departure.

Though the driver took the split hard, there may be a glimmer of hope for Sargeant after recently accepting an invitation to test with Indycar’s Meyer Shank Racing in Thermal, California. Owner Mike Shank is thrilled by the prospect of having him test with his team, and even though there are currently no open seats, rumor has it that a partnership will be formed for the 2025 season.

What Logan Sargeant’s Test at Meyer Shank Means

After learning about Logan Sargeant and his brother Dalton’s talent from former Shank driver Oswaldo Negri Jr., Mike Shank watched the 23-year-old very closely. Negri, who was teamed up with Shank for 13 years, knows good talent when he sees it, having won the 24 hours of Daytona race in 2012. Based on Negri’s recommendation, Mike Shank scheduled the test run for November. The test will allow Meyer Shank Racing to analyze Logan Sargeant’s skills behind the wheel.

But the only downside is that owners will only see about half of his capabilities on the track, even if he’s on his game on testing day. Sargeant’s test isn’t the first time an F1 driver has considered transitioning to Indy. Romain Grosjean, ranked 17th, began his NTT Series transition in 2021 with Dale Coyne Racing in partnership with Rick Ware and brought home a pole. Shank emphasized that most drivers who make this transition are successful, especially when competing in the Indianapolis 500.

Will  Mike Shank Take a Chance?

Given the apparent success of former F1 drivers transitioning to IndyCar, Mike Shank knows it will be a missed opportunity for both sides if he doesn’t take the chance to bring in a Super License holder like Logan Sargeant. To Shank, it’s like finding a diamond in the rough because it only happens once in a lifetime, so he’s not ruling out the prospect of the Florida native joining the team in some way.

There are rumors that he could join for the regular 2025 season or an endurance race, but it’s to be determined if there’s any truth. Nonetheless, the test will bring attention to Meyer Shank Racing because of Logan Sargeant’s large F1 fan base, which is not bad for a driver who has only been around for three seasons. Sargeant is willing and ready to take his career to a new level and a test at Meyer Shank is just the beginning.

Final Thoughts

November will be interesting to observe as Meyer Shank Racing has invited Logan Sargeant to do a trial run for IndyCar. Rumors are swirling that he’ll join the team in 2025, but there are currently no open seats since recently signing David Malukas in June to fill Tom Blomquvist’s spot. There’s also the question of the recent charter that restricts a team from owning more than three charters. Only time will tell if the rumors are confirmed to be true regarding Meyer Shank’s possible partnership with Sargeant, so stay tuned.
