Daytona Is For Miracle Winners

Daytona

NASCAR makes its return to the legendary Daytona International Speedway. It is a place that has a history of first-time winners or drivers getting their first win of the year. The track has seen happy endings and heartbreaking loss. Winning at Daytona takes just as much luck as it does skill. A track like this is the ultimate equalizer there. is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. This will be many mid-tier drivers a final shot at playoff glory.

The Speedway has garnered many incredible moments since the installment of the playoff system. In 2022 Austin Dillon captured a clutch victory to clinch a playoff spot. William Byron got the clutch win in 2020. In 2018 Erik Jones did the same thing in the 20 car. Daytona provides a last-ditch effort for drivers who may not have the equipment to win a traditional race or a driver who has been in a slump. Daytona is the ultimate reset and can change the lives of drivers.

Unlike in years past Daytona is not the final race before the playoff, this year Darlington is the final race which has its element of unpredictability in itself. However there just simply isn’t a place like Daytona. We have seen in the Daytona 500 drivers get their first career win. In 2021 we saw Michael McDowell capture his first career win after 16 years of trying. in 2022 we saw Austin Cindric get his first career win in his first race as a full-time Cup series driver. Daytona is a place to break through capture the checkered flag and punch your ticket to the NASCAR Playoffs.

Drivers Who Need A Win

There are many drivers with their backs up against the wall and need a win to advance. Both Richard Childress Racing drivers are under the pressure to win. Kyle Busch has won a race every year for the last 19 years. That historic streak is on the line and Daytona may be his last shot at it. Busch has won the 400-mile Daytona race in 2008 and has been so close to many more. Austin Dillon has won in these conditions before.

Justin Haley has won many plate tracks in the Xfinity Series and captured an unlikely victory in 2019. He is currently 260 points behind the cutline mathematically unable to point his way in but can get in with a win. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has had success at Daytona winning at the historic track twice he needs to win to get into the playoffs. Erik Jones needs to win to get in and he can win even in the 43 car.

There are still drivers that can point their way in Martin Truex Jr. in his final season is currently 77 points above the cutline. Ty Gibbs is 39 points above the cutline, Chris Buescher is 16 points to the good and then Ross Chastain is just one point to the good in the playoffs over Bubba Wallace. The board Saturday night can and will be flipped multiple times but when the Checkered flag waves someone’s life will forever change becoming a winner at the famous Daytona International Speedway.
