Robert Woods Named As Trade Candidate For Houston Texans

Houston Texans Robert Woods

Much has been made this year of what a stacked wide receiver room the Houston Texans have. As such, veteran receiver Robert Woods hasn’t seen the field too often this year. Woods is only 32, though, and he may be fit to serve for another team. These facts have led to some rumors that Woods might soon be traded.

Woods, 32, Might Still Have Lots of Football to Play

Trade rumors started when Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox mentioned that Robert Woods would make sense for a trade. Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Stefon Diggs are currently holding down the wide receiver position for the Texans, and behind them, it looks like Xavier Hutchinson is the next man up. Given these circumstances, it’s hard to find a role that Woods can play on this team.

Robert Woods has seen lower production every year since 2022. He had a short stint in Tennessee, where he only had 527 yards on the season. Then he left for Houston, where he was used sparingly. As for this season, Woods hadn’t seen the ball until week 3, where he caught two passes for 18 yards against the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite his diminishing performance, Robert Woods might still have a lot to offer on the field. It was only since 2021, though, that Woods was considered one of the better wide receivers in the league. Therefore, since Houston has so many other receivers, trading Robert Woods makes total sense.

Several Possible Destinations for Woods

Regarding destinations for Woods, two teams jump out immediately: The Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams. Both teams are dealing with some severe injuries at the wide receiver position. Shockingly, it’s only three weeks into the season, and A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Puca Nacua, and Cooper Kupp all have injuries keeping them off the field.

While the Eagles and Rams make the most sense, they aren’t the only teams that would potentially be interested in Robert Woods. The New England Patriots would love a strong wide receiver to bolster that young receiver core. Even the Jaguars might want another veteran to serve as a target for Trevor Lawrence.

Woods would likely be traded for a couple of draft picks if he does get moved. In an ideal world, though, the Texans might want to try and ask for an offensive lineman in return. The Texans racked up eleven penalties in week 3 against Minnesota, and most were false starts. Young quarterback C.J. Stroud could also always use some extra protection. As of now, though, the Texans haven’t made an official statement indicating they’re moving Woods.
