Hansi Flick has recently said that Lamine Yamal does not require a break. He also backed La Liga referees in handling the tough tackles the Spanish international winger has been getting. After leading Spain to victory in the European Championship in the summer, Lamal has started every one of Barça’s games this season across all competitions.
Flick Says Lamine Yamal Doesn’t Need Rest
Hansi Flick has not substituted Lamine Yamal out of a La Liga game this season before the 80th minute. Fans have been saying that Flick rests Yamal due to his age.
“We have all the data from the players and at the moment it’s not like that, that he needs a rest,” Flick said.
“At the moment, everything is fine. He feels good. I don’t think that [against Getafe] he needs a rest. It’s also important playing at home to start well with a great team.
“And what Lamine Yamal is doing this season is unbelievable. The quality has nothing to say about the age; at his age he is really unbelievable, doing great things.
“Is he the best [in the world]? I think he could be the best player in the future, 100%.”
Yamal was on fire again over the weekend as Barça defeated Villarreal 5-1 to record six league victories in a row under Flick. He hit the crossbar, won a penalty kick, and set up the fifth goal for Barcelona.
Flick Backs La Liga Referees
Yamal was on the end of many harsh fouls towards the end of the Villareal match as anger began to set in amongst the players. This made Barcelona fans concerned, and Flick has backed up referees to protect the 17-year-old.
“The referees are doing well,” Flick said. “They take care and they give yellow cards, it’s good.
“We take care about these players, because they are unbelievable with the ball. I know because I was more a defending player, it’s not easy to play against them. We have to look at these situations and see what the referee gives.”
Flick Talks On Ter Stegen Situation
Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen suffered an injury during the match against Villarreal. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to surgery on Monday for a ruptured tendon in his right knee. Several sources claim that Barça will look into replacing Ter Stegen with a free agent. Although Flick stated he believes backup goalkeeper Iñaki Peña will rise to the occasion, he stated the team will have a discussion on whether they need to buy players.
“For a second goalkeeper it’s always difficult to be focused, but Iñaki is and he is ready to play,” Flick said. “We have confidence in him, but we also have to see what we are doing. We will talk later because behind [Peña] we have really young players.
“If we change something, we have to take care about that. We are not under pressure; we are really confident with Iñaki.”
Conclusion
Barcelona have a lengthy injury list ahead of their next match against Getafe. This list includes Marc Bernal, Ronald Araújo, Fermín López, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Dani Olmo. However, much to Hansi Flick’s delight, Ferran Torres will be back from suspension ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Getafe.
