Ohio State Basketball Preview For 2024-2025

Ohio State Basketball

It is almost college basketball season, and this article will review the players, coaches, and schedule of both the Men’s Basketball and the Women’s Basketball teams at Ohio State. The men’s team is slightly better than the .500 and may make it to the NCAA tournament this year. They made it to the National Invitational Tournament last year. The women’s basketball team at Ohio State is National Championship caliber. This preview includes each team’s head coach, players, and some recruiting. Then, it reviews the all-important schedule.

Jon Diebler is the head coach of the Men’s Basketball team at Ohio State. He relaced ill-fated Chris Holtzman as head coach with just six regular season games remaining. The Buckeyes promptly upset #2 ranked Purdue at Purdue and won five of their last six games in the regular season. They lost in the Big Ten Tournament and the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) semifinal. Diebler played basketball at Ohio State, where he was a deadly long-distance shooter. Because of Dibler’s success last year, there is reason for optimism for the Ohio State Men’s basketball team.

The Men’s Basketball Team at Ohio State has two very important transfers who are likely to be among the best players on the Buckeyes. Aaron Bradshaw is a seven–foot–one-inch forward. He transferred from The University of Kentucky and was a McDonalds All-American. He will start for Ohio State. Sean Stewart is a six-foot-nine-inch forward transfer from Duke. He was also a McDonalds All-American and will likely lead Ohio State.

The Rest Of The Team

John Mobley Jr. is a six-foot-one-inch guard. Meechie Johnson Jr. is a six-foot-two-inch guard likely to see significant minutes for the Buckeyes. Bruce Thornton is a six-foot-two-inch guard. He is likely the best basketball player on the Ohio State team. Taison Chatman is a six-foot-four-inch guard. Ques Glover is a six-foot-even guard.

Micah Parrish is a six-foot-six-inch guard who will be in Ohio State’s rotation. Colby Baumann is a six-foot-three-inch guard.  Evan Mahaffey is a six-foot-six-inch guard who will also see significant playing time for Ohio State.

Braylen Nash is a six-foot-four-inch guard. Colin White Position is a six-foot-six-inch guard. Devin Royal is a six-foot-six-inch forward with significant playing time for Ohio State. Kalen Etzler is a six-foot-six-inch forward. Austin Parks is a six-foot-ten-inch center. Ivan Njegovan is a seven-foot, one-inch center from Serbia. He is a freshman who was probably Ohio State’s best recruit.

OSU Men’s Basketball Season Outlook – The Schedule

The Ohio State Men’s Basketball Team starts playing basketball at home against Cincinnati on October 18 in an exhibition. The schedule starts in earnest with Texas in the Hall of Fame Series in Los Vegas, Nevada. Their non-conference schedule has some highlights mixed in with all of those cupcakes. The game at Texas A&M on November 15 could be difficult, and the game at home against Pitt is definitely difficult.

The Men’s Basketball Team starts conference play at Maryland on December 4th. The Big Ten Conference on the Men’s side is very challenging. Still, the Ohio State Men’s Basketball Team plays at a good, well-coached Auburn team on December 14th and plays blue-blood Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic in New York on December 21st, just in time for the holidays. The Big Ten tournament for the Men’s basketball championship is from March 12th to March 16th in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Cotie McMahon is a six-foot-tall forward. Rebeka Mkulaskova is a six-foot-four-inch forward. She is a Senior who will play big minutes for the Lady Buckeyes. Taiyier Parks is a six-foot-three-inch forward. She is also a senior who could play big minutes for the Lady Buckeyes. Karla Vries is a six-foot-three-inch forward. She is a senior and could also play big minutes for the Lady Buckeyes, though probably less than Parks and Mkulakova. Eboni Walker is a six-foot senior forward.

Faith Carson is a six-foot-four-inch center. She is a freshman. Kennedy Cambridge is a five-foot-eight-inch guard. Though only a sophomore, she may get playing time for Ohio State. Diana Collins is a five-foot-nine-inch guard. She is a freshman.  Madison Greene is a five-foot-eight-inch senior guard and starter. Rikki Harris is a five-foot-ten-inch guard who is also a senior and starter. Kaia Henderson is a five-foot-six-inch sophomore guard. Emma Shumate is a six-foot-one-inch sophomore guard. Taylor Thierry is a six-foot guard who is a junior starter for Ohio State.

Kevin McGuff is the head coach of the Ohio State Women’s Basketball Team.  McGuff has been the head coach of the Lady Buckeyes since 2013 and has won 198 games for them. They should be favored in the Caitlyn Clark-less Big Ten Conference.

OSU Women’s Basketball Season Outlook – The Schedule

Unlike the men’s team, Ohio State’s Women’s basketball team begins its season with Big Ten foe Illinois on December 8th at home. They sprinkle in key non-conference opponents throughout their schedule. I would highlight Stanford, on the road on December 20th. Like the men’s, the Big Ten Conference Women’s tournament is from March 5th to March 9th in Indianapolis.

Conclusion

Ohio State’s Men’s Basketball Team has two very important transfers who are likely to be among the best players on the Buckeyes. The women are listed among the teams that are favored to win the National Championship, but there is no such consideration for the men.
