2025 NFL Draft Rumor: “Real Chatter” Jaxson Dart Could Be Taken Before Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders at the NFL Combine, 2025 NFL Draft

The 2025 NFL Draft is almost here! We’ve spent the past three months pouring over mock drafts and dissecting rumors. In January, all of the rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. However, as it gets closer to the draft, rumors can point to what teams are thinking. The quarterback position is always the most intriguing in any draft. Shedeur Sanders is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s class, and a recent rumor indicates he may fall, with Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart being the second quarterback off the board.

2025 NFL Draft: Jaxson Dart Over Shedeur Sanders?

Recent reports have indicated that the Tennessee Titans plan to take quarterback Cam Ward with the number one overall pick. For months, many have assumed Shedeur Sanders, the son of Deion Sanders, would be the next one. One NFL scout is not convinced. According to Zac Jackson of The Athletic, there is “real chatter” from a high-ranking AFC scout that Jaxson Dart could leapfrog the Colorado quarterback in the draft order. ESPN’s Matt Miller confirmed the report.

The scout said that many teams believe Dart has better physical traits and a higher upside. However, another AFC scout also noted that this year’s quarterback class, in general, is one of the most polarizing among teams.

“This year, even now just two weeks out, I think everybody has a different opinion of these guys. Four [quarterbacks] could go in the first round. … There are a bunch of different ways it can go depending on how teams really feel about these quarterbacks.”

This happens in every draft but it might be to the extreme in the 2025 NFL Draft. There could be some jaw-dropping moments with players not going where you expect them.

Both Players Have Potential

Both Dart and Sanders have huge potential. Their success will depend on many things, including the situation they are put in. However, we can’t deny that statistically, both of them had great seasons last year.

  • Shedeur Sanders: 74% completion percentage (Led FBS), 4,134 passing yards (Led Conference), and 37 touchdowns (Led Conference)
  • Jaxson Dart: 69.3% completion percentage (Led Conference), 4,279 passing yards (Led Conference), and 29 touchdowns

There are knocks on both of them, but they also have shown they can produce big numbers in big games. For many teams, it might be a matter of preference. It also depends on what other positions are on the board. A team could be looking for a quarterback but see a top edge rusher on the board and decide to forego taking a signal caller. Nothing would shock me on draft night.

Final Thoughts

There would be plenty of drama if this did happen. I’m sure Coach Prime would have something to say if his son was the third quarterback off the board or if he fell out of the first round entirely. The NFL has a knack for making even the draft one of the most drama-filled events of the year. How will this all shake out? We don’t have to wait much longer to find out.
