On the June 11th, 2024 edition of Monday Night Raw, a WWE superstar whose contract is set to expire was written off of television as he made his last appearance for the company.
Recent reports have stated that WWE Superstar Ricochet’s contract is expiring and he is deciding to leave the company. This came as a shock to fans as Ricochet has spent over 6 years wrestling in the WWE and is one of the key aspects of the Raw brand.
On last night’s Raw, a segment involving Bron Breakker, Ilja Dragunov, and Ricochet resulted in the star being hospitalized and written off. This marks the end of his career as a WWE superstar, and it will certainly be interesting to see where he goes next.
Monday Night Raw Segment
Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, and Ricochet have been in a small feud recently, which started because of Bron’s frustrations with not being chosen for the King of the Ring. This has led to multiple segments and matches on Monday Night Raw. The June 11th episode of Raw saw Bron Breakker facing Ilja Dragunov, a match which Breakker won via a spear.
After the match, Breakker exited the ring looking to attack Dragunov, but Ricochet jumped the barricade for the save. Many were expecting that segment to be the one where he would be written off, however, that ended up not being the case.
Later in the show, Bron Breakker was shown attacking both Ricochet and Ilja Dragunov backstage, After hitting Ilja with a spear, Bron was able to focus all his attention on Ricochet. He threw Ricochet into the parking lot and smashed his head against two WWE trucks.
He then picked up Ricochet, walked up the stairs of one of the trucks, and slammed him into the windshield of a car nearby. Ricochet was immediately transported to the hospital in an ambulance, making his last WWE appearance.
Ricochet’s WWE Career
Ricochet had a great yet underwhelming WWE career during his time with the company, as fans believed he deserved better, especially in the later years of his run. He joined the company in 2018 and became the inaugural NXT North American Champion.
He teamed up with Aleister Black to win the 2019 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. He then moved onto the main roster teaming with Aleister Black until the 2019 Superstar Shakeup.
He was able to win both the WWE United States and Intercontinental Championships, though he was never able to win either of the big ones. Ricochet had some memorable moments in the WWE because of his high-flying moves, including a 2024 Royal Rumble flying clothesline spot with social media star Logan Paul.
The last championship he won during his time with the company was the WWE Speed Championship, a title that the company created solely to be featured on the X app. The exact time when Ricochet’s contract officially expires is unknown, but it certainly seems like it’s time for him to move on as there’s not much left for him in the WWE.
What’s Next?
With Ricochet leaving WWE, the most likely destination for him at this point in his career would be All Elite Wrestling. His skillset matches the style of wrestling that AEW showcases and it would be a perfect match for him and the company.
Ricochet does not have a no-compete clause as he was not released, which means that he could debut for any company as soon as his contract expires. It’s been noted that Ricochet’s contract is set to expire this summer, which means that he could debut for AEW at their All In 2024 PPV if he signs with them.
He also owns the rights to the name Ricochet, as he previously used it before joining WWE. Ricochet has a history with NJPW, a partner of AEW, so it would certainly be interesting to see him wrestle for his old promotion again.
There are many options for Ricochet once his WWE contract expires, and it certainly seems like it’s the right thing to do for himself career-wise. WWE was not using the talented superstar like they were doing before, so it seems mutually beneficial for both of them to move on.
