WWE Raw Results: Monsters Battle and Howdy Emerges | 8/19/2024

WWE Raw Results

On the sad day that former WWE and WCW superstar Sid Vicious passed away, WWE Raw put on another great show on Monday, this time live from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. The night saw two monsters battle with destruction abound backstage. The event also featured Uncle Howdy in his (new) in-ring debut take on Chad Gable of American Made.

WWE Raw Results in Another…Judgment Day

The night began with Judgment Day and Liv Morgan welcoming us to the show. Video segments ensued showing Judgement Day beating down Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest to remind everyone of the teams’ that it was they, and not the Terror Twins who were betrayed. Dominik Mysterio vows to enter and win the tourney for the Intercontinental Championship but is interrupted by his father, Rey Mysterio, and the LWO.

This set up an 8-man tag battle between the two teams that saw high-flying action, some great multi-wrestler splashes, and sunset flip spots, and saw “Dirty” Dom get the win over his father…again, using a very tight-looking “La Casita” pin maneuver. Great opening and a fantastic match. Better than it looked on paper!

Battle of the Monsters, Watch Out for Those Cars

https://gty.im/2167881438

“Big” Bronson Reed has been emerging as a monster for WWE Raw. It seems like Triple H is committing to developing Reed on-screen as the next unstoppable force on Raw, after destroying Seth Rollins, R-Truth, and almost destroying The Miz. Reed was scheduled in a match tonight with the Monster of all monsters, Braun Strowman.

The pounding that these two delivered to each other was thunderous and the viewer at home could almost feel the blows through their televisions! The destruction headed to the backstage and production areas. Destruction of each other and the decimation of two parked cars signaled the ending of the “match” when  Reed delivered a tsunami to Strowman on top of the car roof, crushing the vehicle and Strowman. Violent action.

Uncle Howdy Emerges Triumphant

Uncle Howdy’s entrance never gets old and the fans love it every time. Howdy is set to take on Chad Gable in tonight’s main event. The match featuring launches over the announce desk, an Olympic Slam on the outside from Gable, and the eventual interference by the Creed Brothers created an entertaining match that wasn’t the standard fare.

The Creed Brothers beating down on Howdy, with The Wyatt Sicks leader just laughing it off signaled some of the supernatural element that is hinted at the group. Of course, the Wyatt Sicks showed up to brawl with the Creeds as expected.  The use of the Mandible Claw to wear down Gable and the interference of both groups is a testament to why this was main-event caliber for WWE Raw and not relegated to the midcard. Sister Abigail for the win! Well executed.

Additional Highlights

Miz vs Xavier Woods vs Pete Dunne IC Title Tournament #1 Contender: The Miz held his own. Woods performed as he always does. It was Dunne, however, who definitively won this match using the Bitter End, his finisher. Last week’s great match against Seamus and this week in this triple threat bout has Dunne heading in an upward trajectory.

CM Punk ambushes Drew McIntyre: CM Punk hid under the ring for McIntyre’s promo. At the height of McIntyre calling CM Punk scared and the regular diatribe that the Scottish Psychopath has regarding Punk, the “best in the world” attacked McIntyre behind with a strap and had to eventually be separated by security. McIntyre fled after getting repeatedly punched with Punk’s strap-wrapped fist.

Jey Uso vs Karrion Kross vs Kofi Kingston IC Title Tournament #1 Contender: This triple threat featured three superstars that are not paired up in matches that often. Kross was naturally disadvantaged by Kingston and Uso teaming up on him. The win saw Uso score with the Uso Splash and this could be the start of Uso’s push, which in fans’ minds should have been more evident before this week.

WWE Raw Review

Judgment Day vs Latino World Order: B+
Great in-ring action with prior promos and post-match involvement of still building for the match between the Terror Twins and Liv Morgan and Dirty Dom Mysterio. Served the purpose but also gave LWO much-needed screen time to showcase their skills.

Damage CTRL vs Pure Fusion Collective: C
Kairi Sane and Iyo Sky looked good against Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. However WWE Raw seems to using these types of matches as filler and perhaps to try to establish contenders for the Women’s Tag Team titles. Triple H and creative has to work to make it more interesting.

McIntyre vs Punk Build: C+
The crowd may have eaten it up, but this was more of the same from these two. It wasn’t boring, but it isn’t anything that we haven’t seen. I am sure seeing someone being hit in the face with a leather strap is more entertaining live than seeing it at home for at least the fourth time.

Dunne vs Miz vs Woods: B-
Pete Dunne. Pete Dunne. Let’s say it again…Pete Dunne. This is the start of his push, presumably, and he always looks brutal whether he wins or loses. The Bruiserweight has earned his name.

Karrion Kross vs Jey Uso vs Kofi Kingston: B-
Jey Uso is going to be a megastar. Perhaps he already is, but the WWE needs to make him a champion on Monday Night Raw to help solidify their belief in him and the fan’s minds. He is over. Way over.  Tonight’s match was the first step toward giving Uso a shot at Bron Breakker

Braun Strowman vs “Big” Bronson Reed: A-
Monsters….destruction…smashed cars! What more could you want? This services in the build-up of Reed, but still made Strowman look good and the WWE has not had a great backstage brawl in some time. Well done.

Uncle Howdy vs Chad Gable: A-
The main event of the evening scored better than it normally would have. The Wyatt Sicks are on their way up in fans’ eyes and the live crowd has been showing extra excitement for any time they are featured. Over is an understatement and due to their popularity, this was main event material.
